Computer building, I am

I would have gone with Intel then and an Nvidia Card but that is me. But I know AMD has its fan just like I prefer Intel after having nothing but issues with AMD stuff in the past until a couple years ago. I have certificates from Microsoft as well as some of mine and my dad's coding has been in Windows since 2000 as he was not only a Foreman Machinist for Mobil Oil in Elwood but also their computer security chief till he retired in 2000. So he taught me in 1986 back when we had to solder in everything vs now where it is all socket and plug & play for the most part.

A good program for people who don't know how to build a computer which is shocking is on Steam there is a game called PC Building Simulator or something. Had a couple people buy it and they used what they learned there to build a computer instead of paying ridiculous prices on a store bought one.

I plan on building a new tower in the New Year sometime already have the PSU and Case. Being Disabled for Life I have to save up and buy in pieces but going to wait till Spring to see what else comes out.

I will say though AMD has really stepped up there game CPU wise and is either damn close in some areas or equal and in a couple other areas beats Intel. GPU Wise....idk about that yet. Nvidia still takes the crown there at least for now but that is just imho, not like that means anything in the computer world, lol. Everyone has favorites and reasons why...just like in Car Audio, lol.

i definitely get that.

well intel still has a large lithography at like 22nm iirc, even the i9-10900k. amd has that 7 nm lithography. it really seems to be more efficient. i think that's why the i9 wattage is higher than an equivalent amd. the i9 is one hell of a processor though, so are some of the i7's. but intel doesn't even offer a pcie 4.0 on any of their motherboards yet. i think intel may have been the big dog for so long that they haven't innovated enough.

see i have a new type of ssd hardrive. it plugs into the pcie 4.0 port. it will read and write at over 4000 mb/s. its rated to read at i think 4800-4900 mb/s while it can be written at 4200 mb/s. they are tiny cards, like the size of memory cards, and they actually stick under some of the heatsinks in my motherboard (i have 2x m2 slots, one is directly connected to cpu in the same way a memory card is). so when you talk about the OS and program files for applications, that's going to be significantly faster than a 2.5" ssd with a sata cable.

there's features like that that made me go with amd over intel. i mean i have last year's processor, so to speak. so i have room to upgrade. idk if you've seen the ryzen 5000 series release, but you can't find one of those unless you give up an arm and a leg. i would've gotten a 5800x if they were available for the actual price they're supposed to be. i'm not paying ******* 100 or 200 over. i'll wait and just sell my 3800xt in 6 months or a year and wait for the price to go down.

Fans don't last as long as they used to anymore. Even if you buy the more expensive ones so I have just gone to buying w/e color LED fans I like atm. Right now the tower is all lit up in Purple. Next one will be probably Purple as well as it seems to look good in that case.

Right now I have around 8 or 10TB of storage iirc. Along with running 2 M2 SSD's as well. Next one will have 3 as I also run Dual Boot OS as well as I despise Windows 10 but some games will only run on it now...bastards! lol

I also run enclosed Liquid Cooling as well from Corsair or w/e else is out at that time that is getting good legit reviews from Toms Hardware or from friends.

The 11the Gen CPU's coming will have 4.0 next year. Idk why they dropped it from the Z490 series was a big mistake but at the same time 4.0 M2s didn't come out till sometime in the summer iirc. Also the PS5 has a extra M2 slot as well since the Hard Drive is soldered into their main board for some stupid @!#$#%@!%!$ reason. They are waiting to release if it will be 3.0 or 4.0 so I will have to buy one for that as well.

Try having a father who gave you a bunch of expensive addictions like..Computers...Electronics...Boats...Jet Skis...Dirt Bikes...4-Wheelers...Snowmobiles...Fast Cars...I was 8 years old and he made me without the use of a compressor redo a Chevy 350 from tear down to putting it back together not so it would run but turn over by hand along with set the valves and all that other garbage.

I had all those toys growing up on the Kankakee River but anything I had, I had to do the upkeep on it, pay for my own gas and any repairs if I broke it. When I was 12 I went through Coast Guard and Power Squadron classes to certify me to operate a boat on my own. Since I was on the insurance I had to have that otherwise our rates would skyrocket, lol.

I know I got lucky with him teaching me a lot but damn...all these expensive addictions! Even used to race at Chicagoland Racetrack.

But yeah most computer guys end up addicted to it if you end up doing the stuff we are doing. I have calmed down with it some and only do an upgrade every 3-4 years. This one is a I5-8600K with 32gb of memory and a 2070 Super and a Z370 MSI board

see man, they should release a non-average consumer ps5. but sony has a proprietary f'ing everything. you can't add external assests, at least on ps4. i like modding my fallout 4 game and sony just limits it.

but both microsoft and sony should sell versions of the xbox and playstation that use their OS but that you can upgrade. there's no reason, other than corporate greed, that i can't put a 5 ghz processor in my console and have an actual GPU instead of CPU/GPU combo

i mean that's not a bad setup at all. i just wanted to do one and done, so i got the best i could afford. my x570 board is just nuts man. have you seen the asus bios??

here's the ryzen 3800xt. i got this from best buy of either ebay or amazon, suprisingly to me, they had it at a fair price.

Yeah I have used Asus boards before in the past. Now I go to MSI as I like their stuff a little better. But I have done builds in the last few years with Asus boards for other people. Both make a quality product..I would say MSI, Asus, Gigabyte, Evga if you can afford it. And the thing is...Foxconn in China makes a lot of the boards but MSI was being made in Taiwan which is another reason I like them.

Best Buy sometimes has decent prices. I normally go to Newegg and they will match anyone on their prices and usually beat them because of that.

I was planning on getting the new Xbox but decided to upgrade my old Dell instead. I'm happy I did. Just threw a graphics card in and a new power supply as the stocker had coil whine when playing games. I'm an expert PC builder now

I started playing Battlefield 2 again that I used to play from 2005-2008 and man the nostalgia..
I played alot of Battlefield 1 on Xbox and started playing it on PC the other day.
Then got Raft and The Forest and have been playing Raft almost daily. Pretty fun grindy game.

Haven't found any other games that I want to try yet.

Only thing I don't like about going back to PC gaming is so many of the players are cry babies. Calling everyone better than them a hacker.. But honestly I got called a hacker often even on Xbox...

yeah and i don't get charged taxes with newegg, not yet at least. i've found their prices on bigger stuff isn't that great compared to ebay. foxconn is a huge human rights abuser. they won't even let you kill yourself to escape the slavery. you just get caught in the ******* net and sent back to work

I've built around 10-12 computers over the years. Mostly as a hobby, and gave a few to family and friends. I just ordered a new motherboard and CPU to upgrade one I built several years ago.
