WTF is max power on an amp

The old term, "peak power", gave a better clue to what it is.

(Which is probably why the low priced amp companies switched the term.)

Its just the amount of power an amp can put out on a sudden peak in the music signal, usually for a whopping few milliseconds.

Its a worthless, empty PR gimmick.

"Max," or peak, power is the wattage at the peak of the AC cyle. RMS power is, in the real world, equal to the peak voltage divided by the square root of 2. RMS=root mean square. Also, peak voltage equals the RMS voltage times the square root of 2. Peak means nothing, as that is not the constant power output, it is just the peak of the AC cycle. The RMS is the "constant" power output.

Note that this equation does not always work with audio equipment because it is rated differently. I'm sure you've noticed that peak is usually twice RMS.

? what is PR

Even when going by RMS power isn't it still over rated on a lot of the cheap amps?
Yeah, I think that they sometimes use an RMS rating on a frequency where they get the most power, and then rate the THD on a different frequency. Also, I don't think that the frequency response given is at full RMS power either. And they usually don't even say +/- X dB either. So they can really say anything they want.

not even a second. for a fracton of a second. thats why anyone who kknows anything about car audio goes by RMS power when looking at amps
I know I do:blackeye: but it's just that win you see a amp box

and it says 900MAX....300rms and im like WTF so that is why im like WTF is MAX

power I know it's crap
