worry about safe install

The older sons best friend installed a pioneer amp and sub combo. Ok cool, but he ran the power wire from the fender through the passenger side door to get it inside the cabin (vs going through the firewall) and has the wiring fuse in the trunk instead of under the hood within 8-10 inshes from the battery like it should be. Now, aside from the gains obviously set incorrectly (when the h/u is turned to 3 the subs are bangin pretty loudly), im concerned with the potential fire hazard of the pinched wire and lack of fuse under the hood. Its only an 8 gauge run that he has covered in the flimsiest split loom on earth. My concern lies inthe fact that the older son rides with this kid fairly frequently and despits the weakness of the amp and sub, im sure he has them cranked while driving around. Wouldnt this potentially cause heat to gather where the wire is pinched due it causing a kink and being pressed on by weather stripping of the door? Combine that with the gains on the amp at likely 80%+ and im thinking a potential fire hazard. Am i wrong here? from what i could tell, its a pioneer GM-5400T running two entirely black faced pioneer 10"s

The insulation will eventually fail where the wire rubs in the door and shorting will likely cause a fire.

Fusing at the battery would be the simplest fix, order him an 8$ fuse off Amazon and put it up front if you're worried.

thats part of the problem, hes a very attitude driven 15 year old and ive tried to tell him to move the fuse to the correct location to which he says "its fine" and the second time i told him (yesterday) he said "its been fine so far!!" with a huge attitude and started telling me off in my own driveway when he was dropping the older child off at home. So, even if i ordered him the part, i dont think he'd let me fix it. The stepson got out of the passenger door and i pointed to the wire and said "dude, do you see that? its a pinched positive 12 volt wire and you dont have a fuse under the hood, if this fails you run the risk of burning your whole car to the ground" of course, his attitude kicked in again and his mouth started to run, even saying to me "why are you being a little....?" He didnt say the b word, but it was inferred. At that point i had enough and told him that it wasnt a good conversation path for him to take with me and to get the eff off my property. So that bridge seems burned. Im just worried about my kid being in harms way in his car because of this botched wiring job and gain-as-a-volume-knob setting. Sounds like my worry is justified

Sounds like u need to man up and show him who's boss. Your the adult and what u say goes, if he won't do it correctly then he doesn't get any system at all... I think the only option is to make him do it right or take everything out the car.

the kid in question isnt my kid. its my kids friend. the only way for me to man up here is to go talk to this kids dad. Believe me, a sub par install like this wouldnt have happened under my roof. Running 4 gauge OFC to a SQ 2200.1, did happen under my roof, but nothing this bad would ever happen LOL

On the bright side, it's not like the car will just explode, when it does catch fire they will have a couple minutes to see/smell the smoke and get clear.

Gain and all that aside, power wire somewhere it will rub and no fuse is unsafe with or without the amp even powered up.

Yeah, it's not your kid, so don't worry about it. Your kid would be able to get out of the car if the wire did short out.
yeah, i know its not like its gonna "Last Action Hero" kersplode, but if theyre going down the interstate and smoke starts filling the car, that could get hairy. Other than that, i agree that when the smoke is noticed, theyll likely stop and get out safely. I should start a pool taking wagers on how long till it blows LOL!!!!

Ohhh I didn't understand. I thought your kids friend hooked something up in your son car... if it's the other kids car then whatever. Let it arch and burn up the amp and battery and you can say I told you so... you can't fix stupid.

yeah, its got to that point where im just waiting for the opportunity to say "i told ya so". Ive even offered to help him rewire it in my garage using my tools. Only thing we would really need is a drill for the firewall and maybe a dremel. Oh, he has it grounded on the trunk lid retaining bar clip screw too. Ill see if i can post the pic he has on fb of it

i saw a car on fire at stop light few years ago (the trunk) guy in car didn't even know it, i called fire dept when light turned green pulled beside him said get out car man he got out and said f*ucking stereo 1 min later fire truck was coming lucky he was 3 block from fire dept..

Doesn't look terrible from there. Big issue is where the wire is being repeatedly pinched/bent in the door frame.
yeah, ive seen worse grounds, just a tad silly to not put it under the carpet with a self tapping screw to the sheetmetal after sanding off some paint. The big worry is the part not pictured, the pinched wire up by the door. The part that irritates me the most is the refusal to change it even with free help

That's terrible. Even the ground.....when the hatch/gate closes, it doesn't interfere with it? Because it looks like it does/would.

What about offering a small fee to re-install the things that are needed?
