wire gauge delima

Im tryin to figure out if 0 gauge is really necessary for what im doing it seems to me it is but at the same time the amp input for the power/ground wire is only 4 gauge so wouldnt having a 0-4 gauge reducer basicly defeat the purpose of the 0 gauge wire?

Anyways im running 3 10" l7's on a power acoustik a3000db so ~1800w rms. Another reason this interests me is I can get some 4 gauge for dirt cheap from work.

If the amps fuse rating is under 120A real 4 gauge wire will be just fine at 17' (add up the fuses on the end) If that the only amp in the system you should be fine with 4 gauge. Not many single amp systems need 1/0

The amp doesnt have fuses on it so I cant really figure that out by adding them but it is claimed 160 amps @ 1ohm.

Well we can use the manufacture's logic. They only made it capable of 4 gauge, they know most people are going to install one amp - 4 gauge should work for you. I all else fails - read the manual - they dont offer it online - most likely because the power ratings are so off from the consumption of power they opted not to look like complete fools.......

It should - but I would check what PA recommends in their book just in case. JL for example in every manual tells you what to fuse that particular model with and what gauge wire to run. They also have this info available online.
