Head unit ground: Is larger gauge wire better?

Hi guys,

I'm getting some alternator whine after a new head unit install and I want to try a different ground location. I am wondering if using a larger gauge wire for the ground will be helpful, or if the larger wire might actually cause even more noise.

going larger should not do anything one way or the other when it comes to noise.
