Will I regret getting my system installed at Best Buy?

im a bay manager at best buy and i will say this....your problems with your install are your own fault for not checking to see who was doing your install first and checking to see if they know anything and asking to see if they have any documentation of their work....I can say about bb install bays that they are very hit or miss in some cases you will find phenomenal installers such as the couple nominated for installer of the year in others you will find complete idiots but determining which will be working on your car is on you. Unlike the rest of these idiots on this forum i would not write bb off completely...i would likely avoid that one from now on and make sure i check next time....now that being said the EXACT same thing can be said from custom shops anywhere...some cases phenomenal other cases idiots. So to all those that say bb and cc are the worst the same should be being said for all custom shops out there. SO in the future before going to a custom shop or bb or cc ask if the installer has some documentation of their work hell i have a titled a notebook of my installs that sits on the counter here have it is custom work and not shit i do here but it gives the customer an idea of the work they are going to get and any other installer that takes any pride is his/her work will likely do the same.

which BB you work at in Bowie?

no.. like you said above.. you have shit tons more direct path going through that cable then spread out through the entire frame although most will head through one spot as it will find the easiest method of traveling.. now then good shielded rcas and you won't have a problem.. but cheaper rcas you might..
If you really think it is a problem I have an experiment for you. Run a power wire outside of your car and take some RCAs (they don't have to be anything special, I have used walmart RCAs with this experiment) and wrap them around your power wire. Guess what? You won't have noise...

no.. it's not on him.. usually when people take something to get installed somewhere they dont know how to do it.. in this case OP had no idea about anything about installing a system.. how was he supposed to know if the guy knew what he was talking about or not.. it surely is not his fault BB ****ed up his speakers.. i understand not all BB's are like this and if they fix it for free then all is good... but by no means is it his fault..

lets see...take some time do some research....ask some educated questions hell he could have come here and asked us what to inquire about to make sure he knew what he was doing....he didnt do that thus it is his fault that he took his vehicle to someone that didnt know what they were doing .....if i am having someone do something for me that i dont know how to do im going to take some time learn a little and make sure im getting the best possible be it bb or someone else especially when it is on a major life asset such as a car....thus my statement still stands

Sorry - BB advertises a professional installation. They advertise that they know how to install everything. Not everyone knows of this forum, or has contacts to completely educate them. He took his car to a place to install some equipment and expected a professional installation as quoted. A professionally done installation will work properly.

Not everyone wants to take time and learn about the subject - sometimes there's other things in life. Maybe they want to get it installed, and enjoy it - and go do other things.

Sorry, but if best buy is going to advertise professional installations, they better do them. It's not the customer's fault by any means. He's not getting what's expected.

he does know of this forum obviously and we are not talking about everyone we are talking about him...... he had the time to sit here and post for two days prior to the install then he had the time to do some reading on a couple of places to educate himself before allowing someone to work on his car. He is the owner of the vehicle therefore it is his responsibily to make sure the person working on it is competent...now im not taking responsibility from the idiot who fucked a simple install but im just saying he should have done his part to protect himself from this before the install....all im saying is his current issue could have been avoid with maybe an hr of research im sure everyone can find an extra hr in a day to protect such an investment as a car.

I'm not referencing just him - obviously, he decided to take the chance, and discussed the whole thing over.

However, the very fact remains that anyone taking a car in expects a good job to be done. Problem with doing the research, is that not everyone realizes the research needs done. They expect a good job to be done, as they paid for it. If someone isn't into this as a hobby, chances are they're not going to know much about it.

Ugh. I went back today. He was really rude and standoffish from the start. Didn't greet me, made me wait around for 15 minutes until he was on the clock, then when he acknowledged I was there he just took my keys and walked to my truck.

He realised the problem is an RCA cable, which it is; if you wiggle it a bit all the speakers work perfectly, but it goes out again if it's moved. However, he said he needs to take the wiring out and remove the radio to put in a new cable. He refused to fix it on the spot. He said he has other customers booked for today, and I pointed out that I was his customer last night and he should have made sure the job was finished. We argued a bit more; he kept going on about technical stuff like crimping which I don't have any CLUE about - hence why I went to BestBuy to do this in the first place. Eventually he stormed off to get a manager because I said this was his fault and he ought to take responsibility for not checking the wiring. He was acting like a prima donna and a wanker, which I picked up on when I met him, but oh well.

The manager was ****ing nuts! At one point I got really annoyed with the installer while we were talking because he tried to fob me off with some bullshit about hitting a bump and how he'd have to charge me for a new cable, so I said something like "I came back within 5 ****ing minutes of the install being completed" and the manager went crazy! She started yelling at me that I couldn't swear in the presence of "a lady", that I couldn't say that word on public television, it was offensive. This went on literally for about two solid minutes until I apologised. Then a couple of minutes later I swore again in the same kind of context and she blew up again! She said that was twice I'd sworn and if I swore again she'd make me leave. I was, like, 'Is this really the issue here?! My install was $200 above the estimate, it wasn't finished on time - or properly - and now I'm being messed about trying to get it fixed!'

Anyway... long story short, I have an appointment for 8.00 tonight to get this shit done. The manager even threw in the $10 RCA cable "for my inconvenience". Thanks. Last time I ever shop at BestBuy.

How did you pay for the install ?

Did you get the $350 in writing ?

If by CC than don't bother with the foul language, just mention that you are far from satisfied with the work and will be disputing the charges. That will wake them up.

This and the door opposite are the ones he mounted the tweeters to, as you can see. The "custom work" is apparently behind the grills because he had to make the speakers fit in a different size opening? I pointed out that my speakers came with brackets and they're actually advertised as being particularly easy to install in any vehicle. Whatever. The front doors have the tweeters behind the grill with the other stuff because apparently that's how the SPX-13REF is supposed to be installed. Who the **** even knows what's true at this point?

This is the sub enclosure he mounted my amps to. I told him not to, but he said it was fine because the wood is thick enough and the only other option was to mount them to the back of the second row seats, so fine. There's one JL W7 10" in there.

This is where the problem is. One of those cables is ****ed and needs to be replaced.
