Wrong.

Us southern folks typically do not attend high school....I do quite well with my 8th grade education. Fortunately, TN law is on the internet and I couldn't find anything after further searching that indicates I have to give up anything to anyone in the instance "one day while I was shootin' at some food, up from the ground come some bubblin' crude"....

But here's where I could buy it:

http://www.nymex.com/RB_spec.aspx

Although hiring a tanker truck wouldn't be cheap....It would probably cost be $2-$3k to get it here.

No, the deeds just typically say something to the effect that the current owner is transferring whatever mineral rights the owner has, without stating what they are. The standard title search will not cover mineral rights.
How does one find exactly what has been transferred?

I am assuming this would also relate to other restrictive covenants as well or just mineral rights?

Actually, gasoline on the futures market is quite cheap....and I have no issue at all borrowing that kind of money.
Problem is...there would be millions doing the same thing as me....lol

And it wouldn't be easy to police the upteenmillion co-ops that would pop up during such a thing. They have a very tough time around here determining who can use off road diesel. They die it a different color...the cops never check.
You have no issue borrowing that much money, but the average American might. I think you are overestimating people. The masses would complain and pay up.

I think it would be easy to police coops. Before they can buy more gas, they have to pay the tax on the last gas they bought. I doubt those selling gas would have much of a problem collecting the money.

I put 3.09 gas in yesterday..30 bucks. I'm not complaining. At least it isn't like 4.30+ like california. No thanks. I wouldn't be driving if gas was at 3.50. I can't afford 4 gallons for almost 14 bucks. I'd get no where.

a few might manipulate the system, the majority would just deal with it, and that is all that matters.
I think you are right here...

I would just think if you backed someone up like that, people would find ways around it.

Conceptually, I was thinking about becoming a police officer. They use their police cars to get to work, can use the cars to grab a few things on the way home, etc. It would , in effect, raise the wages of police officers who drive police cars as they wouldn't suffer the effects of gas price increases to the same effect as everyone.

I guess they could tax upon delivery of gasoline...that would probably be the only way...

But I still think just raising the gas tax in isolation wouldn't be successful. It would have to be a package of reforms if you really want energy independance. Like i said, I cannot build a ketchup powered car and drive it to work today....

I think this is my favorite thread you have made. It was quite challenging to think critically at the issue and create solutions...although some of the solutions are quite "out there" but still...good thread.

yeah it goes without saying that other reforms would need to be made, but they would come along easy enough.

Its getting elected politicians to increase the tax on gas that will never happen.

But it should...

I think if there were enough credible politicans who had a plan where Americans felt there were real long term gains to be had by such action...oh wait, I am really dreaming now... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
