Intel is still collected and computers still exist. The country was broken up. It isn't a nuclear fallout like mad max that Titor speaks of. Much has been destroyed but many conveniences still exist. They couldn't have invented time travel for Titor without a computer. In fact he came back to this time to retrieve an old computer needed to fix some unix code in the databases.

In 2036, I live in central Florida with my family and I'm currently stationed at an Army base in Tampa. A world war in 2015 killed nearly three billion people. The people that survived grew closer together. Life is centered on the family and then the community. I cannot imagine living even a few hundred miles away from my parents.

Yes it's true. It also applies to any mineral (gold, diamonds, etc) that you may dig up in your backyard.
