wow this thread lives... interesting... I have never seen a hunter take any animal from miles away... Farthest i have ever taken a shot was maybe 150 yards... 99% of shots in my experience come between 20-50 yards... go protest gay rights or something... You avoid every point that is brought out and make shit up about others.. By you i am talking to all the people who are against hunting and commenting here.
you probably molest the animals after you torture them to death.

That is one of my favorite video's. My father used to have a pet deer that when playing w/ you would hoof the crap out of you if you turned your back. He was small but it hurt like hell. I can only imagine what kind of pain that guy was in.

How is it fair that you kill a deer with a .30-06? That is my problem. Make it more fair. If I shoot you from 2 miles away...people call me a *****. If I walk up to you and beat your ***, I am a victor.
Yet, you have to shoot an animal that doesn't even know you are there.

The systematic killing of animals to support a population is okay.

Shooting an animal from a mile a wayand calling it a sport is not okay.
Who in the hell shoots an animal from a mile away? You would need something like a 50 cal. and that would leave nothing left to eat or look at.

What if I shoot that said animal w/ a 308, 270, 8mm or a 300 mag? Are any of those guns okay? What if I yell, hey deer I'm going to shoot you before actually pulling the trigger? Kind of like when you yell four in golf.

PETA should kill you for your crimes against nature. As long as they shoot you in the neck it will be ok, there is this thing called hydraulic shock.
I shot this deer in the neck one time and it was the most violent death I had ever seen. The impact flipped him over and he flopped around for roughly 5-8 minutes before he bleed out and died. When we finally gutted him, he didn't have much blood left in him. I have not enjoyed hunting deer as much since that one hunt. I'm more of a bird killer and fisherman now but still enjoy going on the deer hunts, just not shooting them as much anymore.

faulkton;

What do you think about those people who shoot Prairie Dogs for sport only from long distances?

Theres few people who can shoot anything accuratly at 1mile, or anything close to it.
Why do you have to use a gun at all?

Do you really think that shooting an animal from 100 yard (which is reasonable, according to the thread) is a fair fight?

How can deer evolve and adapt?

We systematically elimate its habitat while simultaneously create more accurate and powerful weapons. Yet, this is somehow fair.

I have no problem with people who fish with their hands or kill another animal with thier bare hands. No problem with that at all. I also don't have a problem with raising and killing animals for food. I have a problem with people who think that massacreing defensless animals is some type of accomplishment.

You say it is wrong to go out and kill a deer but you eat cow meat. So the farmers are wrong for killing the cows that you eat?
You know how I feel about this.

It is the "sport" of hunting that is wrong. Not the killing of animals. I eat deer at your house. I just wish it was more fair.

i shoot animals if im camping and we have no food, to eat. if i shoot it, and it dont die or i come across it and its suffering, ill give it one in the head. or if i see a half dead coon or squirrel in the middle of the road, i let it see the tread from one of the 31's to put it out of its misery.

100 yards is more then reasonable. On a typical day with my 7mm i shoot a 4" group...

I personally would never take a intentional shot at a deers neck as most people shouldnt... I go for the heart and vitals

Some of you give democrats bad names...

From limited research, it looks that the above-average hunter can kill from 300 yds with the best equipment.

The average person cannot see 900 feet in the woods without some type of engineered optical device (ie scope).

How is the deer able to compete?

Why do you think a deer will squat or jump when he hears a shot? That is an adaptation or form of evolution. He does this so the bullet, arrow or slug will miss him.

A buck will in most cases send/ let the doe come out of the brush first to make sure the coast is clear. I would also consider this adaptation or evolution.

I do not like when someone feeds an animal all year long at a certain spot and then shoots the poor bastard on opening day, there is no sport in that at all unless he is only going to do it for the meat.

How does shooting it at 300 feet seem fair?

The fact that shooting a deer with instant death makes it suffer less is not the point.

I just don't get how it is sporting to kill an animal that doesn't have an equal chance to kill you. If we the deer had guns as well, then that would be fair.
