George W Bush may have been able to oust Saddam Hussein without too much difficulty, but he appears to have met his match in Sir Mick Jagger.

The President had hoped to check into the £3,600-a-night Royal Suite at the Imperial Hotel in Vienna when he attends a summit of European leaders in June, but his men were told that it had already been reserved by Sir Mick and there was no question of him surrendering it.

"Mick is performing in the city at the same time as the summit," a close associate of the singer tells me. "White House officials had wanted to reserve the suite and all the other rooms on the first floor, but Mick and the Rolling Stones had bagged every one of them.

"Bush's people seemed to be under the impression that they would just hand over the suites, but there was no way Mick was going to do that."

The 62-year-old singer made his views of Bush abundantly clear in the Stones' latest album, A Bigger Bang. "You call yourself a Christian, I call you a hypocrite," he had sung. "You call yourself a patriot, well I think you are full of shit."

The Imperial's spokesman Caroline Mueller admits that American Secret Service agents had got as far as inspecting the hotel, but confirms that the President will not now be staying there. Ronald Reagan, JFK and the President's father, George Bush, all stayed in the Royal Suite while they were in office.

My man at the American Embassy will say only that the President will be accommodated "elsewhere" during his visit to Vienna, but refuses to elaborate "for security reasons".

For Sir Mick it is doubly satisfying. Not only has he inconvenienced a man he despises, but his coveted suite boasts a 7ft 4in long bed - very handy indeed when his girlfriend, L'Wren Scott, pictured right, is 6ft 4in, even without her Jimmy Choo heels.

i know all presidents do this but wtf @ a $6,422.03 night room...and it said they want the whole floor of suites....

i just read in the local paper how they're cutting funding for rural hospitals..and now they might not finish the new hospital here..they just started building it and so far just have a big hole in the ground.

When i think about iraq and the bazillion dollars a day we spend there... him staying in hotels that cost 6G's a night...and numerous other things...it pisses me off that as a nation we cant afford to provide health care for the lower middle class...and are cutting things like student aid..and rural trauma care....fuck building hospitals and schools in iraq...lets build some here and send Americans to college..

bush certainly cant be fiscally conservatives....but he is conservative when it comes to actually helping Americans //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Maybe others are starting to see the light about this little prick and his regime. His approval rating is a whopping 32% and dropping with every week.

Now he wants to try and save face by trying to save us some gas money but alas it is TOO LATE.

I'm certainly not defending him in any way (especially his overall energy policy), but i wont blame him for the lack of refiners built domestically.

We need more refinery capacity ftl

I mean come here guys I dislike the Pres. as much as the next man.... But if the President doesn't deserve to stay in the best hotels than who does? I mean he's the f-ing President of the U.S. and has the most underpaid job in the world. I wouldn't take his job for $1 mill a year because that's still being underpaid (e.g. CEO of Exxon, Athlete, etc...) I mean I hate his politics but he still is the President, it's too bad the American people weren't a little smarter and could foresee what would happen as I did in 2002.

But does Bush pay for it out of his own pocket? Nope, tax payer dollars. Damn right he can stay in any hotel he likes as long as he pays for it himself out of that $1,000,000 a year salary.
