Who's system first made you want to get into car audio

my cousin (a girl) had two sony xplods in a 96 lumina off a walmart poineer amp cant rember excatly what model....i was 14 and been hooked for 6 years now lol i baught my first system before i baught my first car!!

When i was like 4 yrs old my uncle had a 67 drop top impala with 2 cerwin vega 15's and 4 12 rockfords and hella 6x9's in the doors. And as long as i can remember my dad had a 88 skylark with 3 15" jl W0s walled off and he used hella that foam shit lol. So those are the 2 people who got me into car audio. started young!

when i was 12 (4 years ago) my neighbor had a pair of american bass 10s in garage off a power supply and i thought it was sweet. then his mom let us install it in her car. i did my first install when i was 12. now that im 16 my equipment choices have changed a little bit.

I was in to home audio I remember being 13 and my dad blasting Metallica and it shook the entire house. wow I miss being a kid. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

This thread certainly explains a lot, though there must be more besides us who became interested in audio, because it was a means of playing music. To tell you the truth, all this talk of audio solely as a seismic event is a little depressing. On HT forums folks talk about movies, on High-End boards people discuss music, but on car audio forums numbers are the name of the game. While the entertainment value can be off the scale, the reality of the situation is less appealing.

I was a member of a another forum (taurus car club of america), every once in awhile I'd see someone post a thread about audio equipment. Like, what speakers are the best, or how do you install a head unit in the dash?

I thought those were interesting reads. I started doing my own research and ended buying infinity components for my taurus. I thought it sounded great. I slowly build up my infinity system (didnt know anything other than mainstream companies at the time). A month later I added infinity coax's and then 5 months later I bought an infinity 5-channel. I had that sub channel not being used, so I figured what the heck, I may as well get one of those to. Ended up with a 10inch kappa sealed.

I didnt know anyone with systems at the time, all of my additions were due to curiousity of how good I could make music sound in my car.

I've always been interested in music, but my entry into electronics wasn't audio, it was radio. My dad had a CB in his truck for a while, so I got hooked on that...my first exposure to electronic theory was for the ham license exam //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I was used to 50 and 450-ohm loads, took a little while to get used to the idea of a 2-ohm load for a speaker //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

BTW, did you ever get my PM about that preamp?

1996. My friend had just gotten his license and a Lexus ES250 for his birthday. He put a bandpass box in the trunk with 2 MTX Thunder II 10"s and a JDL 1200 watt amp (yes JDL, Japanese Dynamic Labs). I had never heard of bass in a car and thought it was the dumbest thing anyone could ever do. I would never let him turn it up. When I got my car a few months later I bought his setup from him because I wanted to fit in. I became hooked after working for 2 days to realize I had connected my inputs to my outputs and therefore had no sound from my subs. Generally this is how I get addicted to something. Being challenged by something and then I have to know everything.

This is also around the time I found out KFC didn't just serve buckets and that you could get popcorn chicken. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I did. I'm embarrassed to say that I haven't found it. I don't remember lending it out, so it must be somewhere around here. This weekend I'm going to conduct a more thorough search.

About a year ago, I heard my brother's friends 10" MTX T5500 and a 10" xplod in a TC. I was like, alright, this is cool. So I walked into hhgregg and found 2 MTX T5510s for $23 a piece. So I bought them not knowing I needed an amp, box, and wiring. After spending all of that money, I thought the bass was too much, so upgraded all my speakers and bought a 4 chan amp.

Thanks, no rush //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Just curious...do you know of any high-end 2 channel forums that you'd recommend? I'm kind of "homeless" between forums right now, it's hard finding one that fits //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Just wondering if you know of any I haven't heard about.

I always loved bass from hearing them through my Studio headphones.

Then i heard my friends JL 10's and I wanted my set of subs since. I got some visonik to start my system up.
