Who should pay

So I had a "friend" of mine install an engine in my car at his shop for $500. This friend is named Dave, he owns a collision/body shop and is an extremely good friend of my uncle. First time the car is driving around, due to installer error a bolt breaks and causes damage to the flywheel and clutch. Dave sends it to another shop and to fix it all the bill is $1000. Dave, as he should since it was his responsibility. Dave isn't doing the work, but a mechanic who works at the shop is.

Now, the car sits at a toyota dealership. We were missing some vacuum lines so Dave wanted to send it to a nearby toyota dealership and have them get the ones we needed and put them in. I now face an $82 parts bill and around a $320 labor bill. I guess there are more install issues than the vacuum lines.

I have no problem paying for the parts, but I don't think I should pay for the labor. I paid him to install the engine, not do a half *** job and send it somewhere else for me to pay the bill there as well.

Thoughts?

ide say make you friend pay . but you should have got in writing that he would do it for a said price . but if he said he could put it in for a said price and he cant do it for that said price that one him to make good on his offer

He should pay, sine you paid him to do a job.

However, you should've just googled 'How to install Engine'.

It's amazing how much ish you can find. I researched how to design tube amps last night... I'm saving up to buy parts for a 14W Push-Pull Guitar amp.

i'd take it to someone else who knows what they are doing. you will probrably end up with more problems in the future.
well it's at the toyota dealer and they're gonna finish it up so I'm glad about that actually. it's just who has to pay.

I've got a receipt. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif It's not just something he did in a backyard, he owns a body shop and had it done there.

yeah but a receipt don't mean nothing really he could always say he just agreed to put it in and nothing else and charged you for it .what you would want is some thing saying he agreed to do a full engien install along with some kind of warranty on his workman ship in doing so . i had to sue one of my dads friends cause he put in my engien and ***** for 600 and didn't replace the t stat witch cause the radiator to blow and he over tightened the ball joints and ruined the bushings he had to pay for a new radiator and new ball joints and for the work to be done buy a mechanic of my choosing he had to pay out almost 800 in the end and i only paid him 600 to put it in
