Who Has a 4th Gen Camaro?

FYI.... the easiest place to run a power wire through the firewall in a 4th gen camaro is this... under the hood on the passenger side...remove the 2 10mm bolts holding the ecu in place....lift the ecu out and set it to the side... there you will see a grommet that you can pass up to a 1/0 cable through with ease...hope this helps and this is the easiest way to do this car... if you are on the drivers side and need a spot to run a small gauge wire (i.e siren, strobe, foglights, hoodpin, tachwire, etc..)... you can get a wire insertion tool to go through the grommet for the hood release cable...these two spots are common regardless of engine/transmission....

what headunit do you have?
most have some sort of sub out that needs to be turned on and then a sub level that needs to be turned up.

Old school Clarion DB245 head unit. I looked in the pdf manual, didn't see anything about sub out. I do have the RCA's hooked up correctly and the remote wire.

Are you sure the sub is good? Has a measureable impedence? If the sub meters good try another sub that you know is good and see if you have output...You could either have a dead amp, blown sub or at worse case, a bad pre-amp output on your headunit...

No, not sure the sub is good, though I bought it brand new through onlinecarstereo.com as well as the amp.....I have been wondering though....the amp says it's 2 ohm, the sub is 4 ohm---does this make a **** bit of difference?

How do I meter the sub? Multimeter?

I think someone mentioned it, but there is a bracket in the hatch on the driver's side (I think on the passenger side too) right near the rear quarter panel that pops off. It was probably the best ground I've ever been able to use in a car, because you could drill through so easy and actually know you aren't about to damage anything. If I still had my camaro, I'd take a pic and show you but I sold it a couple years ago.

Awesome, thanks for the info...I actually did this, so I know I have a good ground now. I'm getting power to the amp and I know the sub works cause I hooked it up to my buddy's amp today. But, yet, there's still zero sound coming from the sub I double-checked the RCA's and remote wire too....

I'm going back to re-check the headunit's manual to see if I can find anything about "sub-out." Anyone else have any advice? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

It doesn't have anything in it about sub-out, etc. It just lists the fact that it has pre-amp outputs.....wouldn't the headunit just assume that there's an external amp since the RCA's are connected??

Double check all the wiring, make sure the ground is really tight and has a firm connection. Make sure you have all your fuses in or they aren't bad. One time I couldn't get sound out of my speakers, but it turns out I put the RCA's into the wrong pre-outs in the back of the HU. So it's probably a small mistake, you just have to find it.

I'll do that when I get home today. If it's not my wiring (I've checked it six times), could it be the amp, even though it's getting power? I'm going to try a different ground too.....

FYI, here's the sub and amp I'm working with....could the reason I'm getting no sound be something to do with the ohm difference?

I also checked all fuses, I need to re-check the fuse closest to the batterey come to think of it....could the amp still be getting power, but not quite enough to drive the sub if that fuse wasn't connected properly?

Ok, gettin a bit frustrated here....I have a great ground, fuses are all good, have power to the amp, I know the sub works, and the RCA's are hooked up properly.....

Anyone know anything about a stock 96' Z-28 stock system??? The remote wire coming from the headunit is hooked up to the car's blue and white wire already. I spliced into this with the remote wire to the amp....IS THIS A PROBLEM????

I guess I figured it was the remote wire. There is no power antenna.

There was a single blue wire from the headunit not connected to anything that I spliced into the amp's remote wire and the blue and white wire. Should I try connecting the lone blue wire straight to the amp's remote wire? Could this be my problem (no sound from sub)??
