Which Truck to Get?

Take a look at 4 year old used trucks and see which ones are a dime a dozen used.... those are the ones that nobody likes. The ones that are scarce 4 years

I was pricing PU trucks recently and the newer Fords are pretty much dime a dozen. I suspect there's a reason everyone sells theirs (not hating...I've had really good luck with Ford products in the past). FYI. Seems that Toyota trucks in particular are very hard to find used and hold strong re-sale value.

Well fords are a dime a dozen cuz they are the number one selling truck for like 35+ years lol

Very hard to find certain Toyota models, my dad is looking for a 2000-04 Tacoma Double Cab, they go for 10k 2WD and 13-15K 4WD, all with over 100-180k miles, maybe it's just around here, but the Toyotas are the only things that hold their value more than a few years.

Exactly. Theres a ton of Sundown stuff for sale on this forum. Is that because its garbage that nobody wants? No. Its because in this community, there is a ton of people who own the product.

Same with Fords.

My point exactly.

Test drove a '13 F150 SuperCab XLT w/ the 5.0 V8. Was a pretty nice ride. Drove a lot better than the Expedition I tried awhile back.

Haven't tried anything else yet but will in the next few days. Definitely going to go used since the payments on new trucks are just too much for me.

Buddy of mine has an 08 ford f.150 engines good but for some reason the transmission has given him trouble since about 70k miles. Just my 2 cents. Personally I'm a fan of small 4x4 trucks with v8s. Like a frontier, Dakota, colarado or Tacoma.

I like small trucks with big engines too. I just want to get a full size now because I need room to move things and have some passengers, plus I don't fit as comfortable in small trucks for long haul driving. Not that I drive long distances often.

Found pretty much exactly what I want. 2012 F150 4x4 SuperCab STX 5.0 V8 in Ingot Silver. 15K miles on it. I'd prefer the slightly darker Sterling Gray, but it's not a huge deal. As long as it isn't bright red or beige. The dealer wants $27K. I gotta call them tomorrow since it's up in Idaho and I won't be back there for a few days. Hopefully they can hold it. Just crossing my fingers it wasn't a smoker's truck.

I am bias so take it for what it is worth. I do live in rural area where pick ups make up 80%+ of the vehicles on the road excluding semi's; its mostly oil/gas industry out here. I was Nissan mechanic when the Titans came out. My votech dormmate/friend still is.
Dodge: disliked for childhood bias. I have had them for company trucks personally. I don't have much experience with them since the hemi out, but they used to have transmission issues. The interiors are pretty poorly made.

Chevy: the new ones make a nice alternitive to a car. decent interior, and powertrain but not upto snuff when used as a real work truck. the front bumpers (marshmellows on the corners) have low clearance issues and get nocked off at $300 a whack. My brother's co-worker has replace several on his company truck. they drive down lots of dirt county roads and pasture lease road. they average 40k miles a year.

Ford: this is what my brother's work truck is 2010 F250 6.2L gasoline 4X4. He has had little issue besides wierd shift points and the transmission not upshifting (it was electrical and was an inconstant issue that was fixes with a software patch). His work truck now has 80-90K on it. He wants to buy when his company retires in around the 150K mark. He took delivery on his 2013 Raptor just after Halloween. That is an awesome pickup!

Nissan: a couple of the early ones had transmission issues. they can run lean and cook the catalytic convertor which can come apart finding its way into the engine. My mechanic friend has had 2 and his dad has one. The first thing he does is "broom handles" the cats. In Oklahoma, we don't have vehicle inspections. They run good but are not so great on gas. If your dive the hard, the learn your driving style and while making more power get dismal miliage. Ryan's only one average 11.5mpg. On road trips it got close to 13 one time. With the average driver you can expect 16-17 on the highway. They are pretty tough and had a decent quality interior.

toyota: my mom has a 08 5.7L 4 door after a year of owner ship has still loves it. It gets 16-17mpg average with her 11mile drive to work on open roads. Really nice interior and feels solid. my dad bought a "loss leader" 2012 tundra with the smaller 4.7? v-8 it runs good but not like the 5.7L. He still tows 10Klbs stock trailors without any problems at 65-70. His gets in the 18mpg range unloaded. 12ish towing. His truck is stripped with rubberfloors, vinyal seats, and not much else. It would have crank windows if they are offers. He got his for $22K OTD. It is the true 4door without 4x4. They seem like a nice blend of Chevy luxury, class leading power(5.7), and ruggedness but they are the most expensive.

That is just my 2 cents.
The catalytic converter in the exhaust came apart, traveled upwind, against gravity, back into the engine? I don't think so.

OP:

I have never been a Chrysler fan. I have a lot of friends with Dodge trucks and they all have problems. A couple have the Cummins diesel too. The Cummins is a great engine, it just seems the Dodge truck around them doesn't hold up. I think Chrysler has always skimped in quality, and their designs are terrible.

GM and Ford have came a long way since the bailout years. They are trying harder than ever to make a better vehicle than the foreign manufacturers. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a new Ford or GM. However because Ford has had a few "unconventional" designs in the past I would prefer a GM car.

Although I'm going against my previous statement, the 2013 Fusion is so ******* ****. Not big on Hybrids but **** it gets my **** hard.

By that way of thinking, do an experiment. put some sand in the bottom of cup. blow into cup. If you are really sure about your theory of how physics works, don't close your eyes when you blow into the cup.

As the cat desintegrates, it turns into a fine powder. The power plugs up the small holes in the cat. This reduces the exhaust flow through the cat. The engine is still producing the same amount of exhaust gases just has less place for it to go. The turbulance stirs of the dust (desintegrated catalytic convertor material) and it able overcome gravity and finds its way into the cylinders through the exhaust ports.

Look out how far the cat is from the cylinders. It don't have far to go.

You are absolutely right sir. I've never seen a setup with the cats right on the manifold like that. My bad for calling you out without the information to back it up.
