Which amps are rated WAY too low???

This little amp even has a subsonic filter!! Why would they put that on there if it wasnt used for driving a sub(bridged.
Just because an amp is used to drive a sub doesn't mean you wouldn't benefit from using a sub sonic filter. The filter isn't meant to be used like a crossover. What its used for is a low cut filter so that your amp is wasting power trying to reproduce frequencies that your speakers couldn't reproduce. Not to mention most music doesn't go below 40 hz. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Good Point. I hadnt thought of that. I understand that an ssf us used in a bandpass configuration with another xover often as well (ported subs n' such).

The BTS is cool though. It has these big chunky 3/4" long knobs for adjusting bass/treble/gain and the fixed xovor pt. ssf. I wish they made more amps with the chunky knobs nowadays.. Those little recessed gain knobs are a pain!

Hmmmm, I'm a prick because I think people should learn the value of work and money, and then earn what they deserve instead of thinking that everything in this world should be handed to them because their parents spoil the *%#@ out of them. Honestly, I have to disagree with you. I don't think that makes me a prick at all. I think that makes me one of the voices of the majority who is simply making a statement, with which, MANY people agree.

I suppose one could consider you a prick for expressing your views (really, just a generalization) where they are not needed. I don't really care, but wanted to throw my 2 cents in. This forum is hear to help you, I'd be careful not to bite the hand that feeds you.

As for your question, by the looks of your setup, you are going to need multiple amps and not just one amp to run all those speakers. But a very good company to look into is US Amps. I personally run the TDU-600. Which is a Hybrid Tube amp (tube pre-amps built into a solid state amp) that runs at 150x2 RMS at 12.5 volts and 300x2 RMS at 2 ohm. US Amps has excellent amps and many can run down as low as 1/2 ohm and 1/4 ohm.

Best of Luck,

Derek

Something for you to consider on this quest. 5 watts can make a tweeter scream while 5 watts on a sub makes it sit there. You do not need that much power for the front stage unless the back end is so overbearing that it dicates it. Then if this is valid, the second mid up front dictates the necessity of a bandpass crossover and amp to control it indipendent of the other mid (which has it's own crossover). You cannot just hook another mid up to that MB Quart crossover, it throws the entire crossover point out the window. (an exception to this is if you are using the MB Quart add a woofer system that comes with it's own crossover). Yes these components can be parallel wired and ran at 2 ohms, another option would be a good 4 channel amp in the 75 - 125 watt area and on one side of it you biwire in the tweeter. This is going to allow indipendent control of the second mid and it's highpass crossover point by use of the crossover on the amp and add a dedicated gain control. This is handy if the mid is in a different location or different airspace from the other mid.

More power, sure if you think you need it. Just remember again about that tweeter though. Take your tweeter and it's crossover and hook it up to a headunit and see how loud it is going to play. It takes no power at all for that tweeter to rip your head off, it does not need power. For 4 mids more power can be a good thing but keep it to 4 ohms otherwise all your hard work on alignment and staging is thrown out the window by what happens when impedence drops. If you plan on running the system balls to the wall, then as much power as you are thinking may be necessary, but I highly doubt it. A good 4 channel amp to condier is the Eclipse PA5422, older Soundstreams (way older - none of the new garbage), Xtant X604 (used in a system somewhat similar to the one you have (too much power for my customer)), crossfire VR804 (stupid amount of power) and many others. Tru, Brax, Helix, Audison should also make your short list if dollars are no object. If they are, go with the tried and true Eclipse I suggested. http://www.eclipse-web.com

As impedence drops, heat output goes up, damping factor goes out the window, sq is thrown away (vs. 4ohm), current draw goes way up. The best move that you can make is to run a good class AB amp to the front components at 4 ohms, add a second amp to

Easy there Jester. While I would love to be one of those "spoiled brats", I'm not. I was living on my own at 17.I do believe that when children are rewarded with gifts as a child and teenager its a way of showing that child that you are willing to spend your hard earned money on them.

Now I know a lot of kids don't see the whole picture, but there are some kids that appreciate it very much.

^^^

This is who I am talking about

I think its close minded to stereo type a person because thier parents decide to show affection through gifts. But thats just me.

My statement was not meant to stereotype anyone. As I said before, age has nothing to do with it.

There is a huge difference between the "brats" that I am talking about and the child whose parents buy gifts for them, and who in turn, is respectful, has their own job, works hard at home, at work, and at school, and is grateful for ALL of the things their parents give to them......not just the material crap. Those that I refer to are the ones who's parents buy them anything they want and they always expect more. They flash around all the stuff that was bought for them and flaunt it in other's faces when they never earned anything on their own. They are disrepectful to their parents, AND everyone else and because of the way that they are raised they believe that everything should be given to them without the slightest bit of effort on their part.

I'm not sure why everyone is getting so offended by what I said. If you are not the type of person that I'm talking about, then don't worry about it. I'm not making stereotypical statements. I know exactly the type of person that I am talking about, and I'm sure that everyone on the board knows someone just like that as well. Anyhow, I apologize if I offended anyone, but if you have read all my explanations about what I've said and you are still offended, then, in my opinion, you need to do a little reevaluating of yourself before the time comes when you must provide for yourself ( and possibly others ) and there won't be someone there to give you everything that you think you need.

Anyway, I thank everyone for their help on the amp question. You've given some great answers. I'll try to keep opinions to myself from now on because I really never intended to get away from the topic so much. Thanks again!

Jester

I agree 100%. No offense taken here. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
