What is the best 1000wrms sub?

Big difference between "don't bother" and "don't get too caught up in".

Accuracy with your ears, eh?
My thoughts exactly. And all in ported boxes as well, regardless of what the sub actually wants...

Might have ended the way it did because you were looking for something specific, but your results are far from scientific or conclusive. Quite questionable in fact.

From a measured accuracy standpoint, the W7 is the best of those listed. That a lot of people don't like the way it sounds is a fault with their hearing and what they like, not the accuracy of the driver.

I tested sealed boxes for each sub as well as I stated in the beginning.

Seeing as how accuracy was the only criteria I used to measure with ears only this test could have been by nature a little subjective.

But this test was for me, not to publish, and ultimately your ear is the final judge of how a sub sounds Correct?

These were "real world" tests.

And what constitutes the JL W7 being the best in accuracy from a measured standpoint? What is the technique to measure accuracy?

To anyone that has ever used many different drivers, you will know that one can look better than another on paper, but in the real world, paper doesnt mean anything.

Here are my results from the JL W7 testing.

Chevy HHR

Ported Box

--SPL with 500w = 133.3 dB

--SPL with 1000w = 135.7 dB

--Frequency response from 20-60hz

I scored this on a 40 point system similar to IASCA rules. Difference is that I counted every frequency from 20-59 hz and not the full bandwith at 1/3 octave.

Starting with 40 points I found my base SPL for each sub and deducted a point for every frequency that was 2 dB off as opposed to 3dB in the full bandwith test. Every 2dB deviation is 1 point.

JL W7 scored 8 points.

--Accuracy

I measured on my own scale of 1-10

JL W7 measured a 7

--Durability

10min. 1000w 50 hz tone = Sub started smoking after 8 minutes, did not blow.

10 min. 2000w 50 hz tone = 1 Coil failed in just under 2 minutes.

Sealed box testing

--SPL with 500w = 129.1dB

--SPL with 1000w = 132.9 dB

--Frequency response from 20-60hz

from same test as above

JLW7 scored 20

--Accuracy

JL W7 scored 8

Agree or dont agree, if you have a thing for JL you wont pay attention to any result that shows other subs beating them anyway.

These tests were for me and I found my perfect sub.

the JL is an accurate sub, just not the most accurate that I have tested.

In my experience the W6 was more accurate and I attest that to the stiffness of the W7 suspension.

Most people find the W6v2 more to their liking. That isn't the same as accuracy. Most people don't like the sound of a dry, low distortion, brutally accurate sub. A lot of people don't like the sound of a truly accurate stereo either. That doesn't make what they like more accurate. Many people like the sound of Bose...

We like them sony XPLODS around these parts, boy....
Hey now, can't knock those ugly suckers. So what if they are like most mainstream subs and print their peak ratings all over the sub and box:laugh: But seriously though, my buddy had a gift card to CC and got two 12"s, in a ported enclosure, and an amp that pushes them very well all for $290 out the door.

OH and I vote X's, I love the lowest lows

A BL plot will clearly show the W7 is capable of outputting less BL distortion than is the W6. And as BL distortion is the main source of distortion from a speaker (excluding signal distortion, a different topic for another thread), its easy to conclude which is more 'accurate'. Simply listening and deciding which your ears think is more accurate is a much less accurate way of measuring this.
This is not to say that your opinion is wrong, but that it disagrees with actual performance. As said above, some of people PREFER even-order harmonic distortion in their sound. That does not make it 'more accurate'. This can be measured and defined mathematically. Sometimes you guys take the notion that SQ is subjective to far. I take that back... most times you guys do. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif
