what gauge wire do I need

so i searched and Searched but could not find a chart or info I could understand on what gauge wire I need. I know it depends on how long the strand of wire is for how much the wire can carry but im about to instal a system in a friends car and was wondering what gauge of wire should we run.

the car will never be running more than a 1000 watts rms.. soo it will be 600 for the sub and maybe in the future 400 for the speakers. What do you guys think?

not an exact reference but a good start for most smaller systems

that said if using a rear batt then just run a quality 4 gauge as a charge wire /where as is you are going no batt just run a quality 1/0 and use a distro block
