What frequencies should an average SQ sub install focus on?

If your not going for SPL, or high end SQ, and you are just adding some lows to a stock system, what frequency range would you shoot for with your sub install? 30 - 80 or so? May mid twenties to... how high? I want to get some test tones on a disc and see where my installation is making the most sound. It is a little peaky and def has a sweet spot somewhere around 45-50hz. When you play back test tones, where do you want to hear the peak at? i know the goal is flat with a high end SQ install, but I am not shooting for that..

I am assuming you are referring to the common 4th order bass reflex enclosure. With today's use of drop tunings on instruments and electronic generated sounds, music actually reaches lower as a majority in recordings than from decades past. Tuning @ 40 hz was accepted for most recorded music 20yrs ago, and now it seems the norm is anywhere from 1/2 to near 3/4 octave lower to extend low frequency extension. If your purpose is for SPL, then perhaps the 40-45hz tune may be your calling to achieve higher gains by using the vehicles resonance to your advantage.
