What could the problem be? Still. Experts only please.

Power wire is fine, when the sub cuts out, voltage doesnt drop for the power wire, my ground wires are fine. Maybe its me remote wire. I cant think of what else it could be besides the wiring.

i guess you didnt read my thread thoroughly. i had the exact same problem like you did. when "it" happened, i pulled out the dmm, and guess what? it read 12+. so what im saying is, what may seem fine may not be. the wires are playing tricks on you dude.

start fresh and redo your wiring... that is if you cant take it anymore:)

rewiring will cost me alot since i dont know how to do it myself. SIGH. you have no idea, ive spent way too much on my system. sometimes it makes me think it aint even worth it....

sucks to hear that:( of course its discouraging when you cant solve that problem but you will eventually find the problem. when that happened to me a few months back, i was really close to quiting car audio because i thought both my amps were fried, and i had to work 2 months worth to afford them. anyways it was time wasting for me to find out what the hells going on so i saved enough to get new wires. thats how it is. do it once or do it twice:)

I'm no expert but dont JL amps cut right out when the voltage dips?....maybe a dirty or loose connection at the battery or something, or the alternator going for a dump?....just a thought....i didnt see anywhere where you answered if the big 3 was done...if you did sorry....sounds very itermittent so probably more electrical than electronic.

I second that, if it works perfectly at low volumes, it is most likely the gain. Same thing happened to me, I turned my gain down, and I have never had the problem since. I set my gain by ear when I first installed my system. It worked without a problem for almost 4 years. the problem with my subs cutting out started about 3 months ago, and once I turned the gain down it was fixed. If you have somewhere you can go where you can crank it as loud as you like to listen to it, but have your car parked and watch your amp, you can look to see if it is going into protect mode. If so, it's your gain. Also, touch the amp and see how hot it is, if it's really hot, it's probably going into protect.

Have you tried changing out the subs? Sounds to me that one of the speakers may have a problem and it only shows up at higher volumes. Like a bad spot on the coil that is grounding its self out at certain points in its cycle. Could cause the amp to cut out. Ive seen it happen before.

hmm, if the gains were set too high, wouldnt the sub cut in/out at high volumes from the start? the subs never use to cut in/out until recently and the gains have never been touched since. amp is not going into protect and is not hot to the hands.

If its a bad spot on the coil, wouldnt this problem occur from the start rather than later? I mean, my subs only started to cut in/out recently and i didnt touch the gains on the amp or mess with any of the wires.

Should i get my installer to ground the amp back to the battery negative?

Can you get this problem to occur at will now? Or is it still random? Does it happen more at night - when your lights might be on?

Can you see the LED on the amp - does it flicker - get a voltmeter on that thing when it occurs and check the turn on lead too. Without actually eliminating a problem with hard facts - you'll be looking forever on this board for an answer.

The problem only occurs at high volumes. The sub cuts in/out at random times, like if i loop the track, the sub wont cut in/out at the same part of the song.

OK, i have a voltmeter, but i have no idea where to put the leads and check for what. If you guys can tell me where to put the leads and what to look for i can get back to you guys with some hard facts.
