What Could Be Wrong?

Turn your Lowpass filter and bass boost OFF and then set your gain with dmm. Also, are you using rca's or speaker level inputs?
I'm about 95% sure the first time I set them the EQ was flat and bass boost and LP were off. But I'll do it again just to be 100% sure. The first time I set it, I did it with volume at 40 out of 50. Should I just do it at max listening volume of 25 or 30? Or do it at 40 again?

I'm using RCA's going through a Memphis universal bass knob. And now that I think about it, I'm not 100% sure if it took out the LOC from when I had my factory deck. But my RCA's are connected to the JVC HU.

unhook the bass knob as well. When troubleshooting, take out as many variables as possible to see if you can somehow achieve normal operation. Then if you can, add them back one at a time.

Ok. I'll add that to tomorrow's to-do list.

And a little off topic but which should come first, bigger battery or bigger alt?

I thought about getting one of the Kinetic batts off of eBay since when u got my car the battery had corrosion all over the terminals. I have since scraped that away with a wire brush though.

Always the alt if you can afford it. Batts are great but they can't help like an alt can.

To check your ground run a wire from the - termminal on your batt. To the back of your car and set your dmm to ohms and put one of the test leads on your dmm on the wire and 1 on your ground. You want as low as possible reading. Mine is .4 right now so i am gonna run a dedicated ground this weekend. If someone could chime in im not sure what would be unacceptable.

Turn your radio to 30 if thats the loudest you listen to it without distortion. And remember if you adjust the bass boost, lpf, or bass on your hu its gonna change the volts to your speaker.

Can it be any wire? All I have long enough is some 18 gauge auto wire.

Using that wire from post above, with the DMM set to 20k, I was reading a .3

After reading a bit more I found the DMM should be set to 200 and I got a reading that quickly went down to .4 and after a couple of seconds went to .2 and after a couple more seconds went to .1 and stayed. So I'm assuming that means I have a good ground, if the 18 gauge auto wire is sufficient to test this.

It's cold as fvck outside so I could only handle letting 3 heavy bass songs play to get a voltage reading and it never cut out. The car was in an idle state and the first 2 songs I saw only momentary drops of below 12 with the lowest being 11.7. The 3rd song had a more continuous bass line and it would drop into the 11's often with the lowest reaching 11.4. When there was no bass it was usually sitting between 13.3 and 13.7.

I know I didn't get a reading when it cuts out which was the whole point of doing it in the first place but it was starting to get lower.

On a side note, the LoC was still behind the dash and I removed it and taped around the exposed parts of the RCA's, just in case they found a metal spot to touch.
