what about building a sub?

If you're not buying parts in quantity and know somebody you'll end up paying in overcharges and shipping a bunch of small stuff what you would pay to just have one built. Same with CA glue. If you buy by the gallon it's cheap, if you buy just 1 sub's worth it's going to cost you. You'll need to have some equipment to test TSP's and at the end of it all, if you screw up, you've slagged 70-100$ worth of parts that you might be able to salvage half of if you have to tear down and try again.

That being said, sometimes people sell extra parts on forums for short money so you can possibly grab up softparts from one person for at or below cost. My advice would be to buy something made, then keep your eye out for cheap parts to come up, buy a bunch, then keep your eye out for a motor you can build them onto.

Check out the C2Audio Threatcon 2 15". I was quite impressed with it. I'm giving it 1000ish (VFL4480@4ohm) in a Buck designed box, and it's nice. Retails for $189. It's well built. Solid. Sounds great for under $200.
