i have been on here for a couple of days now.and my currents audio set up is a 5*7 kicker component system and a mclass 12 in a sealed box, and i got some realy great sugjestions on subs i should buy. and i have been looking on here and i see sub motors for sale. could i build my own sub? how hard will it be? what would i need to do it if i could? open to any suggestions i have been thinking about two sundowns and someone on here recomended a 15"XCON would i be able to build a better sub for a better or equal price? and i do understand i will need a new amp. well please everyone leave comments and questions.

Honestly, I would suggest asking someone on here to build you a sub. Or in the very least make a thread on what parts to buy. It is not extremely difficult to do. But the correct parts are essential. If you don't mind trial and error, go for it. Good learning experience.

thanks for the advice but just for a future reference what would a 15" 1000 rms sub cost to be made or to buy the parts.

A good motor 50 to 100

Coil 25-35

Basket 35-65

Cone 20 to 40

Spider(s) with leads 20ish

Can get away without shims but 5 bucks

glues 25

dust cap... 5 to 40

Gasket 11-25

Associated shipping costs

Someone with experience and determinable results to help guide you through.... priceless

ok so its defiantly more affordable but what did u mean about f/s and gauging being the hard part

Well considering you can get a 15" 1000w sub BNIB from several companies for about $250... I don't know about building it yourself really being that much more affordable. Especially factoring in shipping.

Any of these subs would do great on 1000w. The first 2 have free shipping:

Sundown Audio SA-12 600 watt sub woofer

GCON-15 Sound Solutions Audio 15" 750W GCON Series Subwoofer - SSA STORE

SSD15 - Fi Car Audio Store

Those are just 3 that quickly came to mind. There's obviously many more options.

which in your opinion is the best sub for under 280?

Depends on what you're doing with it. Personally I'd go with the Gcon.

My only personal experience is with the SA subs though. My SA 10" has taken 1000w for the past 2 years no problems.

And, I forgot about Obsidian Audio. Also capable of 1000w daily. And a great sub as well: Obsidian Car Audio

Great sub and best bang for your buck for sure. All of them are great, I'd just really like to try the Gcon. They are all good multipurpose subs too, but what are your goals?

i like a lot of bass my mclass 12 just dosnt cut it now lol i want a more bass but some other subs i looked at like the death row is almost 500, but if i could get a lot of bass for under 3 that would be great. but i want to save space too, what do you think that these would be good for listening to rap and rock?

I think any of those would be good choices then. You just have to factor in the cost of getting a proper box designed, and built, for your specific applications. And then get a quality amp to power it, and have your gains set properly.
