What 15" sub to use in older HO Box? Anyone have specs for this box???

I got a Jl HO box that I found at a pawn shop a while back.. They wanted $80 for the box and the 15w3 thats in it, and I put it on layaway because I wasnt gonna immediately use it, plus I wanted to begin the search for a different sub to put in it.. Its an older style one, model HO115R-W3, when Jl still made 15s, and probably one of the few HO Boxes made for a 15 still around.. The ports on this are on the sides, rather than on the top like the current HO Boxes are made.. Basically I am looking to find an appropriate 15 for this box, and I'm also wondering if anyone could provide me with any specifics on this box such as the exact volume, and most importantly, what frequency this box is tuned to..

The next thing is what 15" sub should I put in this box?? I've been reluctant to decide on anything becuase I wanted to figure out what this thing is tuned to, but I just want some opinions.. This isnt the deepest box so not all subs fit.. Also the 15" sub that I'd put in this box needs to be not too expensive, preferrably under $200.. Please dont suggest any Kicker, MTX or JL subs(personal preference), and I dont want to use the 15W3-d4 that is currently in the box.. I have been heavily considering a Rockford Fosgate POWER HX2 (not punch), but I've also been considering putting an Audiobahn AW1508T in it based on my experience with the AW1208T subs, or an Audiobahn AWT15X if I could find one for cheap.. I've also been thinking about using a Fusion NV-SW15 in the box, but I know Id have to take a jigsaw and cut the hole for the fusion to fit, and I cant bring myself to doing that.. I'm just interested in getting some other opinions on this, I'd appreciate all input..

fyi the 15 would be powered by a RF T3002(914watts RMS) so that may be considered as well.. I doubt I'd upgrade my amp, but I might later on.. Before someone comes to point it out, I know the Audiobahn AW1508T is rated 2000w RMS but I know from experience that itd be okay on my 914w RMS amp.. I know the AWT15X is 3000w RMS.. Also dont come talk crap on the subs I am considering, I've owned enough subs to form an opinion on what I like and what I dont like, so obviously I like those for a reason.. heres a pic of the box and sub

the sub is for sale, if you want it feel free to make offers..

arg I **** at uploading real sized pictures.. I googled the hell outta the model number and never found any specs of the box itself, I found one PDF from JL that was more about setting an amps gain.. anyways heres another pic

you obvisously dont know anything, that box is designed for that sub and that sub only, and by the way that jl is probably way better than some of your choices. and if you so know much figure out the specs on your box by measuring it!

aww youre so cute.. although the box is designed for that sub, theres many subs thatd sound just great in it based on the specs of the sub.. the only spec i really need to determind on this box is the frequency its tuned to, the tape measure wouldnt tell me that last the time i tried..

yeah if you cant read i made a point to ask that people not come bash the subs I like, so I may not know anything but apparently youre illiterate.. good day

you can figure out what sub will sound best in that box, just by knowing the tuning frequency, and yet you cant figure out how to measure and find the freq, wow you are good man, and there is a little more to it than just the tuning of the box. and im not bashing the subs at all, i have owned alot of jl subs, they sound gerat, im just saying you should really search this stuff before you pull that sub out of that box.

good luck.

This is purely going off of a 6 year old memory:

The HO enclosure: Appears to be a 6th order series tuned band pass with a angled port opening. However, it doesn't model very well. However, it performs as a ported enclosure with a coupled rear wave and a compressed front chamber. The enclosure is a little peaky but is tuned to 36.5 or hz for the 12" IIRC. JL filed a bunch of patents for the enclosure but none of them are effective in performance...well at least the design wasn't used properly.

You can put any subwoofer with a qts between 0.4-0.5 in the enclosure and it'll sound pretty good. You're limited to around 700 watts at about 20 mm xmax. Anymore than that and there wouldn't be any gains.

thank you for the useful information, seriously

that is the pot calling the kettle black.............

im not saying by knowing the frequency I will know what subs sound best in it but by knowing what its tuned to I could definitely narrow my options down some for obvious reasons.. and no I cannot calculate the exact frequency of the box by measuring it, its just something i dont know, but if I really wanted to figure it out and do it I'd google it.. itd be tough to calculate the exact internal volume and other specs of the box, but itd be really easy to read them on here if someone had some type of documentation from the manufacturer, JL, that gave all the ExACT numbers for this box rather than do approximate calcualtions..
