i have an alpine amp (mrp-m350) and 2 sony xplod subs...the subs will just stop playing sometimes (it's not overheating cuz they will sometimes shut off within 10 seconds of turning them on) but the amp is still on and the subs stop playing music...at first i thought it was a wiring problem...untill today. i was listening to a song and the subs were playing fine until i put my hand over the port and it shut off...i tried it again and about 2 seconds after i put my hand over the port same thing they stop playing...with that happening it seems as if its not a wiring problem but maybe the subs themself...everything is wired right and i've checked numerous times...could any1 help especially about why my subs shut off when i put my hand over the port...also sometimes the subs will shut off without me putting my hand over the port as well... i know this sounds wierd but any1 with any ideas of what the problem could be???????????????thanx

what are the ohm rating on your subs and AMP and how have you wired the 2 subs (in-line or parallel) sounds to me that your amps automatic protection is kicking in, when you put your hand over the port more pressure will be build up when the cone moves causing more power needed to move the cone...

my amp is stable to 2 ohms...i have two 4 ohm subs wired in parallel for a 2 ohm load so thst right...and shouldnt the amp no matter what send the same amount of power to the subs whether i have my hand over the port or not...and the amp does not turn off, its blue light stays on even after the subs cut out

um, have you tried one sub at a time in 4 ohm? have you tried any other subs?

i would troubleshoot with some spare equip, or friends equip if it were me.

sounds like sony strikes again //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

model\make of subs\amp?

yes i have tried just one sun running the amp at 4 ohms and it does fine then...any more suggestions

You need to know if it's the amp or the subs. Put an AC voltmeter on the amp terminals and watch if it goes to zero when it cuts out. If it does, it's the amp. If not, subs or wiring.
