weird problem... please help!

Hi guys,

I have an Audison amp powering a Focal 3-way kit (2 x 10" subs plus mid-ranges and tweeters + filters) at the rear of my car.

The other day I noticed that the bass was very weak or non existent on the right side. I checked the connections, then tried to adjust the gain on the amp and when I turned it up (it wasn't really loud at all) the right woofer moved slowly all the way up and all the way down a couple of times (this was NOT done to the rhythm of the music) before the amp switched itself off with the red "safe" light coming in.

In the amp's manual it states that the red "safe" light comes on in case of anomalies: "presence of continuous current, short circuit or dangerously low impedance".

I haven't dared to try and switch it back on since.

I drove the car right after that and noticed a slight hissing sound (this is only a very slight hiss, you gotta be very close to the tweeter to hear it) from the right-hand rear tweeter (same side as the problem sub). I checked that the amp was still turned off and indeed it was. Weird! So I disconnected the amp's power wire but the tweeter was still hissing. The hissing only stopped when I disconnected the RCA's coming to the amp. I don't know much about electricity/electronics but I found this weird, especially since the head unit (to which the RCA's are connected) was switched off. I put on some different RCA's but the hissing was still there.

This is a weird problem (at least to me!). What do you think could be wrong: the amp, the right-hand sub or right-hand 3-way filter?...

what are the specs on that amp?

so ur running ur lows.mids and high on one amp? how many total speaker u running?

Here is my 4-channel amp:

I use it to power a Focal kit that includes:

2 x 10" subs

2 x mid-ranges (I think they're about 4" diameter, not sure...)

2 x tweeters

...all this is at the rear of the car.

Until recently I had the amp bridged, to have more power going to that Focal kit. But when I moved the stereo to my new car recently I wired the kit to only 2 channels of the amp, which leaves the other 2 channels available for the Focal 165KP mid-range/tweeter kit I've just bought for the front of the car.

Yes, there are crossovers included in the Focal kit that I use at the rear. There's also a crossover on the amp but I leave it switched off.

Basically there are just 2 cables coming out of the amp: one of the sound on the left, one for the right. Those cables go the Focal crossovers which distributes the sound to the low/meds/highs for each side.
