I was having problems with what I thought was my amp, but just got back from some testing. found out that the amp is fine, but something weird's going on with my L7.
what I did first was switched RCA cables to make sure they weren't at fault, and they weren't. Then, for some reason I can't tell you, I decided to push the cone of the sub in a little bit to see if there was resistance, and WHAM, it smacked me in the hand
then, it started working flawlessly. No whining/scratching/bad noises.
So I naturally looked like //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif Then, turned the head unit off, then back on. No sound from the sub. Push in a little, and sound. Tried different scenereos about 10 times, and half the time it came right on, half the time I had to touch the sub. I could actually just touch the rubber surround and indent it maybe 1/16th of an inch and it'd start playing again. I'm happy the amp's working, but now I'm worried about my sub:crap:
I will be pulling the sub out of the box right now to make sure no wiring is messed up. Any ideas what the hell is going on, i'ld like to hear em
Again, no weird noises from the sub, no weird smells/ actions. All looks perfectly fine.
Dad's buddy said to hook up to a 1.5volt batt and make sure it moves in and out properly. He's worried the voice coil ripped from the surround? I think that's what he said. I'm pretty new to car audio, and i've still got tons to learn //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
d2 voice coil 12'' L7 wired into 1 ohm if it matters. I'd estimate it was getting 500 watts max. cheap 1500 watt Crunch amp, gain set at 50%, head unit at most +3 bass of 6. any more info, i'll be ready to answer. have a multimeter to test if needed.
thanks
