Voltage problem...i think, need advice.

So if your car runs off of a battery, why do you need an alternator...... The alternator runs the entire electrical system, reserve capacity is kept in..... the battery.
WTF are you talking about....

I said the alt turns on at a certain point, not that the alt NEVER turns on. His statement pertained to me, thinking that the alt was always on when in reality it isn't.

Wrong.
It phyiscally does NOT turn on, and your car runs off the battery.

I talked to the person who BUILT my alternator.
your an idiot. first of all, you just agreed with me dumbass. second, i know what you mean anyways, but an alt IS always on. It CONSTANTLY charges your bat.

And to whoever said you car runs of the bat, your a moron too. When the car is running, all electrical runs off the alt. The bat is only used to 1. starting the car and 2. it acts as a means of tranfering the amperage from the alt to your electrical system.

The alternator is NOT always on. Stock ones will always be on, but not high output ones. Talk to anyone who makes them and they will tell you the same thing.

And how did i agree with you? You just said it doesnt put out enough amperage, i said the alt doesn't turn on at all. Meaning the alt isn't putting out ANY amperage. Two completely different things.

Asshat.

Straight from the guy who MADE my alternator

"If you can find a smaller pulley it would help. I use the smallest ones that I of. It is a 2" pulley. The 200 amp alternators should turn on about 800 rpm."

My alt doesn't TURN ON until 800 RPM, and i know this because my voltage will read 12.x. When it turns on, it jumps right up to 13.8-14.0. Whenever the alternator turns on, and a normal amount of current is drawn, this voltage will stay the same. When the RPM's drop below 800, back down to 12.x

your a f*cking retard. if your alt didnt TURN ON until a certain rpm, YOU WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DRIVE!!!!!!!!!!! Your arguing a losing battle man. and BTW, read your post, you DID agree with me.

Wow guys...time to chill out! I know nothing about alts, but reading your little debate sounds like an alt is always "on" but has a variable output. Fair enough statement?

I never said it didn't turn on, i said it turned on at a certain RPM. You are saying it is on all the time, no matter what RPM, when it is NOT.

I don't know whose posts you are looking at, but they aren't mine. Quote them and prove that i said something that i really didn't.

an alt is ALWAYS ON! it just puts out different amperage at different RPM. What your saying is the STUPIDEST idea ever. if a car "ran of the bat" while under a certain RPM, my trucks bat would die in the morning when i warm her up. the alt is ALWAYS on ALWAYS ALWAYS

My alt isn't always on, when the alternator turns on, no matter what RPM(above the level it turns on at), it puts out a certain voltage (between 13.8-15 for most alts). When it is off, my voltmeter only reads 12.5-13.0. You wanna know why? BECAUSE MY ALTERNATOR ISN'T ON!!!

And when you warm a car up, the RPM's are higher. For instance, when i first start my truck in the morning, it idles around 1000-1250 RPM, but once its warm, it drops down to ~800 RPM. It used to be less, but i had to raise it up so MY ALTERNATOR STAYED ON.

Why don't you unplug the wire harness from your alternator and just leave the wire from the alt to the battery on and see what happens.

Talk to people that build alternators, and prove me wrong, i beg of you. Get iraggi or nathan or someone from somewhere to tell me otherwise. I'm not gonna take your word for it because you're an asshat.

Why don't you unhook the wiring harness from your alternator and just leave the power wire from the alt to the battery on and see what happens.

dude, talk to nathan peddicord, the owner of excessive amperage and the builder of tommy's and my alternator. the alt DOES NOT CUT ON until a certain RPM. ~900 RPM is where the alternator actually turns on. quit being so thick headed about this. My alternator does not charge until i hit ~700 RPM on the engine. The battery is more than capable of keeping the car running till a light turns green.

You are wrong. Tommy is correct.

i dont what the F*ck is wrong with your car, but my truck always idles at the same RPM. so IF my alt wasnt on at my low 600rpm idle, my trucks bat would die. why dont you go unplug your alt and see if your car still runs. know what why dont you take your alt out and try to idle down the street. im done arguing with you, your a stubborn ******* who cant admit when hes wrong. good luck with life.

do you even have a custom built high amp alternator? or is it by MCR or some other large distributor? if you are running the stocker its no wonder its always on. It too wont cut on until a certain RPM, its just simply lower than that of the H/O alternator that is being used in digital, mine, and tommy's vehicles. Its not like the battery will die INSTANTLY...
