tell me if i have this right: wiring set up, fuses, distribution block, etc.

as of right now i will be running two amps, with the possiblity of adding a third in the future. the first amp is a mb quart raa4200 which puts out 400 watts (a/b), the second amp is an mb quart raa1000 which put out 1000 watts(class d). i went to this thread to figure everything out, so tell me if i have this correct.

1000/12 = 83amps..... 83*.2 = 16amps..... 83+16= 99 or a 100amp fuse

400/12 = 33amps...33*.4 = 13amps..... 33+13 = 46 or a 50amp fuse

100+50 = 150amps, but i'll go with a 200amp fuse if i upgrade to a 2 channel amp for the rear fills in the future

i will be wiring a 1/0 gauge wire from the battery to distribution block with a 200amp fuse between the battery and distribution block, now my questions are...

1. do i need fuses between the distribution block and amps

2. i heard that figuring out fuse sizes has to do with wire gauge and nothing to do with amps, but doesnt it deal with both like the thread i linked suggests?

3. i also heard not to go any smaller than 250 on a 1/0 gauge wire, so would my idea of using a 200amp fuse be wrong? that gauge of wire can handle a 350 amp load i know that.

any help would be appreciated, thanks

1. I would reconmend it, maybe a fused distro-block.

2. Fuse rating is all about the amps as far as i know.

3. There will be nothing wrong with using the 200a fuse with the 1/0 wire.

1. so you mean a distribution block with a built in fuse right? i'm looking at knu conceptz for most my equipment ie. rca's fuses, terminals and i can across this block. it's a ground, buti need a 1/0 input and a 2 gauge output for the 1000 watt amp and a 4 gauge for the 400 watt amp. so what size fuses would i run between the amps and distro block? a 100 and 50?

wow, thanks man. i still might go with the knu product, but thanks for the research with my amps. so what would fuses between the amp and distro block even do? are they there to protect the amp or wire?

Yes, you do need to fuse the wires going from the distro to the amps. It's not to protect the amps, it's to protect the wire. If too much curren't goes threw the wire than it will burn and possible start your car on fire. Anytime you change wire sizes you must do this.

okay so let me summarize:

raa4200 amp - 400X4@4ohm

raa1000 amp - 1000X1@1ohm

- a 200 amp fuse between the battery and distro block

- a 100 amp fuse between the raa1000 and distro block

- a 50 amp fuse between the raa4200 and distro block

so do i need to run a ground from the distro block?

what is the difference between a fused distro block, a ground distro block etc. which one do i need to get?

A "ground" distro block is to combine ground wires into a larger ground wire kinda like the positive wire's distro block. You don't need it unless your planning on running the ground wire all the way back to the battery or for show. If you grounded your positive wire's distro block than you will create a short (very bad thing) and hopefully blow the fuse.
