USX2150 keeps going into protection

If ya mean preouts, it's 4v for the sub. The sub just doesn't put out very much bass with gains set low. Other people have seem to have had to raise their gains fairly high also w/ Alpine HUs.

 
It may be a voltage problem, most amps will go into protection when they are seeing a voltage that is too low. Take a multimeter and see what kind of voltage reading you get with the system off, then turn it on and see what it reads at.

If you have a significant voltage dip due to the amplifier, I suggest getting your alternator rewound, or getting a higher output alternator.

Sounds like a bad ground or wiring problem on the 12v+ side.
