im giving my type r sub 1/2 the rms power. i don't see a problem with this because the sub it rated 50-500 rms. i know for a fact that underpowering it won't hurt it as long as i tune it right. now my question is this, since 500rms amps can be had for cheap, will there be a big difference if i was to upgrade to something around 400-600 rms? i am happy with its current setup but knowing i could go to a new level of bass cheap i would probably do that.

So you're giving it 250W right now?

Doubling power will give you a noticeable increase in volume, but a slight one. So an improvement perhaps, but not a "whole new level" by any means.

i think underpowering it would cause clipping cause the amplifer has 2 give more power out.and yea i think jmanp has a point
umm...no, whether or not you clip the amp depends on how the gain is set.

Unless you're being sarcastic like Jman //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

underpowering your sub will blow it.
