Ok it made me too upset(from getting b!tched at on another forum) so i did a little test on my own.

SI Mag 12"

SA70 Plate Amp 4 ohms: amp does 70 watts but i chose to give ~30ish watts to severely underpower it

16awg speaker/conductor wire

iPod video 60GB black

ROE - 45HZ Track (looped)non clipped signal was sent

camera used was a JVC DV500 (for stationary video) & a Canon SD1000 for photos and 2nd clip

1.5 sheet of Second Skin Damplifier (to stop rattling //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif)

3hrs 6min 23sec and some

speed up by 50k% to 22 seconds

each frame is about 15seconds

foam ball falls off for 30min, i didnt realize it, footage moves to fast to show it being placed back on, i can provide footage of my bro putting foam ball back on by request

Foam ball just shows movement of sub

captured in real time to hdd, real footage ended up being like 46gb, I should have cleared hdd some more to do longer testing

just to monitor it, that i am getting video signal

its on basket to stay elevated and not to block chamber vent for proper cooling

This just shows proof that i did indeed try it

After: put back in my box at ~800 plays fine and dandy, no problems what so ever.

some might say that i put my sub at risk by underpowering //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif , i was very confident, reason i did it.

I've never understood why people say underpowering a sub will damage it... every time you turn your volume down your underpowering it. If you use a smaller amp as long as gains are set properly it will do no damage. The problem occurs when you turn your gain to high and send a clipped signal to your speaker.

My computers to slow to check out the vids but good job.

I agree, but on another forum( i wont say which one, but its the one that drove me to the test) saying that even with a nonclipped clean signal in proper box can be damaged by underpowering it. Then i mention the turning the volume down part and then i get criticized with crucial words.

so what happens when your playing a song that has multiple bass notes and you get an impedance rise up to 10 ohms and your underpowering the sub by a huge margin?

is the sub just suppose to blow?

i mean for christs sake people.

you know although this is a really old thread (at least i didnt bump it) i figured i would tell you this:
while i was googleing how to replace tinsel leads, i came up on the RF forum where someone told a guy that with the T1's its a common problem to break tinsel leads by underpowering the woofer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

i mean wtf? how do you break a tinsel leads if the drivers isnt even moving or barley moving due to being underpowered //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
my reply from the other thread. i mean how stupid can you really be?

I've been severly underpowering subs in home theatre for years with no problems. Mags, SSD, Q's, rl-i8's. I've had all these and more at one time or another in my home theatre set up.

One sub at a time of course, but they were all played of a 240/170 (4ohm/8ohm) plate amp.

Ok, now clip the shit out of the signal and then redo your experiment and show people that it's not the shape of a signal.
Better yet, just play this file through your test rig left as it's set up right now:

http://media.putfile.com/45hz-clpped

That's an extremely clipped 45hz signal. It's pretty close to a pure square wave.
lol i can do it with a type r i have sitting here if you REALLY want me too, but not the Mag
