Type R Hype...?

Is this all just a sarcasm thing, or a serious thing? I have seen many MANY threads about the Type R... but alot of it seems to me like a bunch of sarcasm. And the 230496890 page thread, WHOA thats alot of info on them. I searched the TCAB website and also saw that a single 15" did a 150? Now, for the price these bad boys are.... seems like everyone should have them. Would 2 12"s be sufficient for a Tahoe? Thats a pretty good size vehicle, but i am so undecided on a subwoofer setup. My current setup... bbehh... not that happy with. My other 2 options were 8 10" Fosgate he subs. Or a pair of R's. Before i went and bought into the hype, i figured id ask about it first.

How are your only 2 options a pair of 12" Type Rs or 8 10" RFs?! That's two extreme options!

From what I understand, the Type Rs are excellent subs for the money. Some people are just sarcastic about anything that isn't a XXX, Mag, or some other ridiculously expensive sub - not realizing that not everyone wants to drop $2k+ into a stereo system.

Only $2k, I figured about everyone was willing to drop atleast 3. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

- If I had room for 8 - 10" subwoofers, I would get some of the blowout subs on credencespeakers.com - and save a lot of money (put that money into installation quality and component speakers where it really can make a difference!). Original manufacturer of Kicker and JL Audio and a host of others.

the r's are pretty good for the money, but a few people hit over 150db with them and everyone goes nuts and think its the greatest sub ever. that is why there is a lot of sarcasm directed towards them. and they actually arent very efficient at all, 85 bd 1w/1m, thats nothing to write home about.

LOL you will notice the hype R died out when the crew that paised them got a kicker sponsership. its an ok sub, Ive seen better for the same price. I had one for about 2 weeks then sold it off. Rather have alot of other subs.

Id say they would be better than the 3 12" svc Hifonics Older model Zeus subs? HZ12 is the model. Also, the 8 10" RFs were going to cost me the same as the 2 Type Rs. Or keep my current subs. Also, i dont plan on getting a new amp, so ill probably stick with my BX1500D.

Well, going with 8 10" drivers will definitely move you up several classes in whatever competition organization you're in...so that's definitely something to keep in mind //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Those ratings aren't a very good indicator of efficiency. I meant efficiency as in it doesn't take thousands of watts to get Rs loud.

8 10" subs will get louder than just 2 12" r's. I love my type-r and it is great for a budget sub. the 8 10s imo will end up costing you more problems and money in the long run. the type-r setup will be simple and sound good.
