I've been looking at the 05 Type-R's, and can't decide between 2 12's or 1 15. Going in the back of a 2000 bonneville.

Yes I have plenty of room. The bonneville's trunk is huge. I'm looking at some 1200w amps right now, is this too much power for the two 12's?

I've been looking at JBL and Kicker

The Type R and the Avalanche aren't really in the same class, when you look at price, power handling, etc...apples to oranges.

Huh? The only way to get an XXX is through RE directly, or through a dealer, and most of the dealers charge around or at MSRP.

I just figured an Avalanche would beat the piss out of a type R from what ive read about them, and being as you can get them for 230 shipped, it sounds like a fantastic deal.

yes they can compete with the big dawgs, the TYPE R's are indeed good subs , and power does matter to a degree. box matters , electrical system , headunit, many things apply but to answer your question, i know the type r is a great sub , never tried AA. ive got 2 12"s R's and i love em, i wanna put more and more juice on them, im thinkin of going with a mojo amp on them. there power hungry. Spkmans running a 15" R with 2 1000ds! two! thats like 2 oe 3 times the power rating RMS. Please ...no TYPE R haters....

In the monte carlo I was getting 1550 actual watts - thats double the RMS of the sub. Yes... full tilt music was NOT a problem, full song.

This is extremely box dependant... dont think you can go get a prefab POS and throw power at the subs.

The Type R and avalanch are of course comparable, any sub can be compared. The avalanch definitely has a bigger low end, and sounds a little smoother down low... but from working with both the type R is 1: louder overall 2: better overall SQ. The avalanch just doesnt have any kick to it, the R does. This comes from someone who much prefers the sound of the atlas over the avalanch, and over the type R too.
