i'm attempting my first flared slot port, for my friend...he'll be running two type r 12's....i knew when using the flared port, my volume would decrease, so after using re box calculator, i came up with 5.4cuft at 30hz....my goal after sub, brace and flared port displacement is around 5 cubes at 32-34hz....do yall think that would be too big (i saw that alpine calls for about 2cubes)?.......btw i will be double baffled to take up some more volume.

yeah im pretty much finished with the box just gotta put the top on...and a few more braces, ima try to make the braces as big as possible with as many as possible...lol....and i'm about 2hrs away from gastonia

I made a box for my buddy for a pair of R 12"s 6.5ft after displacements like 60in^2 port tuned to like 35hz it was pretty loud, he did a 142 playing jezzy car sealed up on the dash new TL... off a single T1000... I don't think the guy above even ever did a box for an R he's just goin off manufacturer spec box which is like a basic prefab design LOL

some guy at the comp worked at a shop who carried alpine and told my buddy before hand his box was way too big for the Rs and my buddy came up to me crying I was like WTF f that guy he doesn't know what he's talking about (guy was running a pair of T2 12"s on a T2000 and lost to my buddy LOL funny stuff... he didn't say ANYthing after that. so you'll be fine with 2.5per smaller than I'd go personally.

No, the shop employee was right and you're dead wrong. The Type R likes between 2 and 2.5 cubic feet per speaker best. I cannot even count how many Type R enclosures I've designed and built, but believe me, 2-2.5 is the sweet spot. 3.25 is way too much for a single one. Believe it or not, there are physics and reasoning behind why manufacturers put their numbers out, and why enthusiasts often come up with slightly better numbers, and 2-2.5 cubes is the ideal range for them. If you don't believe me, ask tommyk90 as he knows a thing or two about how the Type R behaves //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

well i'm pretty sure after all the braces i put in there, and both the sub's displacements, i shouldve knocked the volume around 4.8-5 cubes....but after installing the box, i never really got to listen to it, but he seems to be happy with it....i'll post some pics once he gets some carpet so i can wrap it.
