but, its not actually long enough.

tuning should be what ever the fs of the woofer is i think

usually tuning a tapped horn is the length of time it takes a 1/4 wave to get to the mouth.

I tried one for a single 15 but I couldn't squeeze a long enough line into my cargo area to tune low enough to work very well. Tapped horns also peak well above tuning, so it would've worked great in something that peaked at 70hz:

It was very musical though and not down very much from a decent ported box. I think it would've beat ported with the correct line length...

Not for a tapped horn. You want to tune the 1/4 wave length to a frequency that is lower than the resonant frequency of the driver as the horn will load down the drivers quite a bit. This loading effectively brings the woofers resonant frequency down closer to the 1/4 wave frequency.

Any chance you could share your secrets to designing a box like this?

PWK designs told me a tapered transmission line enclosure or a rear-loading horn would be best for me :X But I'm cheap and don't want to pay the $50 for the design.
