Type R...dissapointed

K i'm getting closer. I set the Bass eq to 0. It did go negative, so 0 was in the middle.

I also discovered the subwoofer level adjustment on my HU, I thought my headunit had it but I hadn't found it til now. So that is set to max.

What about the bass level on the headunit? With it at 0, I get pretty low output. Cranking it to +6 (max) REALLY bumps it up. I'm assuming this will clip the sub as well? Can I just set my gains with it maxxed out to get a good setting?

Adjust the Bass Level as well as all other eq's, treble, ect. that the unit has to the needs of the interior speakers. Tweak it and get them sounding good, at a set 'max' volume, make sure they arent clipping or getting distorted on bass notes and what not, and then set the gain on the amplifier from there.

Tada, your good to go, and while cranking bass boost or the gain may result in more output, your most likely going to be overheating the coil on the woofer and eventually it will fair if you dont set it up properly.

The sub was only overrated when people were acting like it was the best thing ever made. However, for the cost there isn't too many subs that can hang with it. I'm very happy with my 15; it did a 149.7 (headrest) at the last show that I attended. I'm guessing that you have a 12?
how much power you got goin to your 15 ? and what size box ?

Sorry your disapointed bro. It ***** when you go to all that work and you don't get the results you want.

I had a 94' Accord sedan that I put 1 Orion XTR12 DVC in a 3.75cu-ft box at 33hz. It wasn't bad for what it was, but I to

expected to much. Live and learn I guess.

Thanks. Thanks for everybody's help as well.

I'm satisfied with my setup for now though. Yes, I was expecting more but it's all good. I can always save up for an hdc3 if I decide I need more : )

i had 2 of them in my explorer in 6.5 cubes @ 32 hz running of a bxi2006d and i did a 151 on a ac190. they were definately some of my favorite cheapo subs.

Just played with my buddies 2 Type R 12's in an Eclipse. They did a 144.8 @ the headrest and a 147.2 in the kick with a zx1500.1 @ 38 hz. Keep in mind that this is a daily setup and my meter is hard. I don't see why you're having problems.

I used mine in 2.75 @ 37 and it was unbelievable for a $100 single 12". I was feeding it 1kw though. Check out the vid in my sig.

I hear ya, my friend has two 12" r's in a sealed box in his Hyundai and im not all that impressed with them, he is feeding 1000w rms total, 500w rms each. Many factors could have played a role in the sound though, it could be the box you have, the car you have and the power you are giving.

my one ported box with a single sub sounds like two subs. Having a custom box made specifically for the subs is very good.

you discovered your h/u has a sub level adjustment, but are the rcas hooked up to the sub out on the h/u? the adjustment won't affect anything if the amp isn't hooked up to it.

I have 2 12" R's and im pretty pleased with them. I have heard that once they are tuned lower then 34hz they start to lose intensity and its just kind of a waste. Next time tune it to about 35hz and ill bet you will be happy with the end results
