Tryin to get big..just started lifting. Any advice?

You are right.I know nothing at all about working out and/or hunting.

Yet I attained a bench press of 365lbs at the age of 19yrs and 196lb bodyweight. Squatting around 440 at that time. No idea on the deadlift.

I have killed so many deer I can't even count them. Yet, I never talk trash about hunting or how good I am. I let my mounts/horns speak for themselves. Oh, did I mention that 75% of my hunting is done on public land? As far as turkey? I missed my grand slam this past Spring in Florida. Started when I was 15, and currently have 17 birds to my name in 3 states. 17 birds in 5 seasons..Not bad if you ask me. I don't fool with pesky rabbits and squirrels //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Oh yeah. And people could dunk all over me in basketball. I am 5'7" and absolutely hate that sport. lawlz.

i think if you weeded through the typical bull shi t answers here youd get SOME useful information but definitely hit up like bodybuilding.com forums or something, read all the stickies etc.

Well I just got back. I ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich before I left, and just had one when I got home. I did squats and deadlifts for the first time today. I tried to do 5 sets of 5 reps like you said Deerhunt with my max weight.

If by "get" you mean understand, then I think I do. I did arms today. So the exercises I did I did 5 sets of each one, with 5 reps, with a lot of weight. Then next week I need to step it up 5 pounds, correct? And do I need to eat before AND after working out?

Just do the 5x5 on your 3 major compound movements...Bench,squat, deadlift...On the other lifts I'd stay in the 10-8 rep range. However, I have saw numerous times where people have had good results with standing barbel curls doing 5x5.
