Tryin to get big..just started lifting. Any advice?

DONT DO ANY SUPPLEMENTS.. I'VE PLAYED DIVISION I FOOTBALL AND SEMI-PRO... BEEN TRAINED BY MANY NFL TRAINERS.... I CAN USUALLY OUT ARMWRESTLE ANY HUGE LOOKING SUPPLEMENT PUMPING WHIMPS OUT THERE B/C I WENT ALL NATURAL.. TAKE JERRY RICE and MARVIN HARRISON FOR EXAMPLE.. STILL TRUCK"N AT OLD AGE.. ALL NATURAL .... supplements will just give you looks and then turn to fat. It gives you short term strength. I haven't lifted for like 1 yr now, and still go into the gym at just a small decline on weight. let a supplement guy do that.. he'd be starting all over.
heh...your about as wrong as can be. you cannot say that all supplements are bad.

I have read numerous times that it is ok to cheat a little on the concentric part of the rep (lifting the weight) as long as you can let it down slowly enough for gains in the eccentric contraction. This is just on curls though.
Same thing ive herd, although it can be used on more then just curls.

WOW talk about some serious help! Thanks so far guys. So could you guys kinda help me get some type of a diet to go by, and should I eat BEFORE I work out or after? I will start tryin to go EVERYDAY, and I may try the 5x5 "schedule" if that seems to work out. I will look into the suppliments that yall said, something that cuts fat and builds muscle and gives me energy is all Im lookin for. I am kinda picky about my foods, and I am IN LOVE with high carb foods is my problem. What other foods have high protein? Peanut butter is good, I can deal with that..haha. More red meats isnt a problem either. What do you guys think about machines? Am I better dealing with the free weights and benches?

I know theres a couple of these, but half of it is a joke, so is there anyone on here actually knowledgeable about weight training? Im around 5'11 and weigh 208. Im tryin to really just get bigger and cut, not necessarily lose tons of weight and look skinny. Any work out tips or diet tips? Suppliments I should try maybe? I have been tryin to go to the gym at least 3 times a week, and I work out and swim.
read the info on this site iv been doing it for about a month they way they say to do it and iv seen some improvemint in places.

heh...your about as wrong as can be. you cannot say that all supplements are bad.
Never said they were bad.. they do work.. but they only work as long as you lift forever. You will gain strength and mass, but you will not retain it as long as you will if you go natural. I'm not on her blabbing from inexperience.. like i said I've been lifting three times a day and along with two practices for almost 7 years. Supplements will get you there quicker and do what you want, but you will not retain once you stop, you will retain a little, but will loose a lot more than if you went natural. if you do go supplements and want the easy way withhorrible retention, go with regular creatine with lots of water and protein. stay stict with this b/c if not, it could get messy lol. It produces quick results and is easy to use. just a few scoops in a milkshake and lots of lifting on a stict schedule.. don't start using until at least twoo weeks into your program. if you go a natural way.. you can use whey protein and lots of water along with more running than lifting, but still lots of lifting and situps.. . will work great. go no supplements, run little, and lift lots.. stay strict on your schedule thats important. Also ALWAYS REMEMBER TO STRETCH... not only to prevent injury, but do it between reps and after especially 1hr of completin of workout. you don't want to look like that bulldog guy that can't straighten his arms. i was a saftey and wide reciever. 6'4 205lbs .. i could strech my arms all the way up.. thats why linebackers cant catch.. they cant get their arms ofer their head.. lol

p.s free weights are the way to go.. . but some newer equipment helps b/c resistance training is always a plus. Oh and if you want to retain your jumping ability and finess, Plyometrics is an easy but effective way to do so. all you need to do is drop off a box and jump and do some other cheap easy routines. Also jump soles are nice i increased my vertivle by 4 inches in less than 3 weeks

The only tips you need.

#1-Eat right. Lean protein, good carbs, proper macros to your weight.

#2-DONT get information on caraudio.com. Go to bodybuilding.com or anabolicminds.com and read, read, read. There are hundreds of these very threads on boards with people who spend all day talking about lifting instead of subwoofers.

#3-Dont go overboard on supplements, especially in the beginning. Use the basic whey, multi, fish oil, creatine at first. If you stick with it look further. Always research anything you take.

/end thread.
