tint or alarm first???

just get an alarm 1st then tint your windows later...you never know..lets say you tint your car,suv etc...then the same guy tries and steal your CHIT's again..but this time he steals something.?..have you taught about that?..

this is incorrect the bypass will only actually bypass the vehicle immobilzer wile they will interface with factory alarms not bypass them
alright, well im real good with directions and installing shit and i dont think i would have any problem with installing my own alarm though it is prolly time consuming.

1. would you recommend me taking it to a shop? because i hate taking stuff there and feel i can do 10 times better work then they will ever do and save me some money

2. if i buy an alarm, will it come with everything i need to install it and interface it with my factory alarm (theft deterrant is what they call it as it doesnt do much)

3. will it effect my remote start at all

well i basically do not have a factory alarm they call it a theft deterrant. i believe all it does is if the vehicle is broken into and stolen, it shuts off the fuel to the car after a minute or something like that. i believe it is the same thing i had in my 06 silverado...

so its not really an alarm, it doesnt detect proximity, broken glass, vibrations or anything like that, but i still wanna be able to keep all the stock features of the theft deterrant and remote start and still be able to use them like normal, but basically add on the aftermarket alarm without any problems or losing any stock features

i didnt no u were gonna do it urself...have u ever done 1 before?
and not all bbs are bad, theres some great installers that work for em.

well all the ones i have been to, the installers know nothing except ohms and what wire looks like.

some may be good but just because you are mecp certified means nothing.

no i have never done one but have installed many other things and feel i am very capable of doing it.

I'm sure you have installed plenty of other things but security is completely different animal. There are many different things to take into consideration. You need to understand proper wire management, CORRECT soldering techniques as often times you will be dealing with resistances that need to be very exact that a poor solder joint could adversely affect. You need to know how to properly integrate with factory wiring while remaining invisible. Locating wires accurately using preferably a meter. Brain and sensor locatio is alsoimportant especially when dealing with prod sensors as when poorly located they will not evenly sense around the car. I've seen countless alarm installs from DIYers that thought they had a grasp of security installs ended up with issues. Not to mention because this isyour first time I can guarantee you this is not going to turn out like you see it in your mind first alarms never do.

The passive anti theft system you have is called Passlock II. It can be bypassed with a resistor and a relay so no real bypass is required however you may want one to take care of the rest of the vehicle functions like lock, unlock, door triggers, factory arm/disarm and any other comfort features you want.

well that kinda brought a new light to my eye...

are there any good threads or tutorials on alarm installation. i knnow all vehicles are different and i wont have a problem finding the wires but i hate thinking to take it to a shop to do it...not to mention the money it would cost

No offense, but you think the Best Buy twerps can do a proper install on your alarm when they have it done in 30 minutes to an hour? Hell, even the local custom shops charge top dollar for a poor install. When I say top dollar, I am saying they charge close to $400 for an install that has the alarm brain zip tied to the steering column or within two feet of the smart junction box. Oh, that $400 is in addition to what you pay for the alarm! Regardless, my point is that most local "professionally" installed alarm systems can be defeated in 5 to 10 seconds:eek:

It is all a matter of economics over ethics. The faster they get the alarm installed, the more money they make off the install. So what if a 12 year old can disable it in 10 seconds.....

One last thing... the locals won't even do anything that disables the starter or fuel pump for liability reasons. The rumor I heard was that one of the local shops was sued relay went bad, thus disabling the vehicle. Now NO ONE in town even bothers to protect the vehicle from getting boosted thanks to some sue happy ******* prick.
