The Official Type R Thread

Hold your voltage and pay attention and it'll run.
Used to be one of the biggest MECA cheater amps when they went by max power rating.
Not true, I have no problems with voltage drop and I am telling you, my amp that is in my truck right now will not run 2ohm mono for longer then 20-30min. It goes into thermal protect //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

lmao - well hell... after 20-30 mins of beating on it, yea, I'd say so.

Beating on it? This was regular use, testing out a sub. No "beating" to it. I am not here to argue, all I am saying is that the amp that I own doesnt like 2ohm mono. It is better suited for mids duty with 150-160 watts per side...(Benched at 163w per side @4ohm)

I'm selling off my old subs to get a single 12" Type R because I'm sure it will be a lot better than what I had. I currently have an Audiobahn A8002T that's rated at 800 w @ 4 ohms. I think it puts out more around 650-750 in reality. I was looking at buying a Type R in a ported enclosure that was 2.3 cu ft and tuned to 31 hz. Would you suggest sticking with my current amp or upgrading a little bit higher? I want to get the full potential out of the sub. I was looking at a Boss RT2500D that does 900 w @ 4 ohms. Is that too much? My Audiobahn is two channels bridged while the Boss is mono so I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes. Any help is appreciated.

I run a phoenix gold titanium 600.2 (640 true watts) to a 15 type r 3 cubes tuned to 30hz and its very loud., but iI hooked a jl 1000/1(my friends amp) to it and ran it for about 20-30 minutes and it took it fine. With 1000+ watts my ears hurt on the 15.

Ok. It sounds like it can take it but I just want to be sure so I don't send them too much overkill. Anybody else have any experiences as using 800 w + to a single 12" as a daily driver?
