The Official Type R Thread

this thread is worthless, both subs are loud enough. everyone is arguing, yes in "that" install the Rs hit better in SPL than the RL-Ps end of story, try at a comp when people have different enclosures, different cars, different power, different installs period. I garuntee someone could could out smart another and make their RL-P pound the shit out of an R, and vise versa. imo I just think its all on the install. But good test anyhow, the Rs sound like a great buy, as well as the RL-ps. both great subs, infact i just got done hearing 2 12" Type Rs in a 300zx they rocked. hatchbacks own also. but you should really consider doing many multiple tests more thurrrow
if you can get an RL-P louder than my R... more power to ya. I don't think its possible.. the woof is NOT loud, flat out... NOT loud. It sounds real nice in the right box, but its just not loud at all... i'll say once more, not loud! Do a 150+ with one 12 and then get back to me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Straight SQ, RL-P works well (still not done with test), but its just not loud //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

bigger box doesn't always mean better...
I've tried the R in a box similar to that... sounds terrible and not loud.

Real life > paper
you then had an incorrect vent size (not tuning)

garrantee it

not loud?

dude, your box had to be jacked up, i got my friend beatin the loudest 12" i ever heard SQL, straight crazy

there had to be something wrong with your box, because i know your opinion is str8 bogus

the 12 i did exeeded the paper by a long shot

it is so loud you would shit yourself and have nightmares

i had a guy with a 12w7 tell me he couldn't believe how much better it sounded and yes im talking about a type R, it made me laugh

he must have had a shitty box too

plus i have tested that sub in so many different boxes of the same size with a different vent area tuned to the same hz, if you have the proper vented box you cant beat it, out hitting 2 sqaure 12"s with 1800 watts, with one type R 12"on 1000w RMS, i've seen it, and it sound 100 times better doin it too

dude i could give a **** about a type R i have a TI 15"with 2000w RMS on it

but it is a bad *** sub for the money

not trying to be harsh, but when someone says something i know for a fact is false i gotta get my point across

And most idiots think distortion is loud...it definetely will hurt your ears. (don't read this as me calling anyone an idiot here, just the average joe who wants a sub--go hang around Best Buy (sic) and you will see what I mean).

If you want to do a real SPL test, I have a B&K analyzer and mic setup and can play quantized tones. We can even do an input/output transfer function and see how linearly the response is for both subs. Nothing subjective about this test, but if you really want to know what the sub is doing no problem. Also, you need to realize that the accuracy of the mic used for this test is probably +/- 2 db at low frequencies and reporting 0.x db of difference is like using a 1 cup measuring cup to measure a teaspoon.

that would be kewl...u anywhere close to spkrman adn chicago? i doubt he'd have an issue doing just what ur suggesting...i wouldn't..

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/peace.gif.2db28b618ed8d1964ebbe2f5021d2c39.gif

I also have access to a scanning laser vibrometer: it will measure the response of every position of the cone/driver to show the actual bending shape of the cone under whatever excitation freq. we choose to excite the woofer. If we wanted to make the test nuts that is.

not loud and peaky in comparison to different design?

you bet...

Still fairly loud? yep.

If you think that R is louder than me, come see me at a show //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i dont think its quite that serious... lol

Excuse the ignorance, I know nothing of car audio competition measurements but I do know a boatload about spectrum analyzers and sound.

I could easily design a single sub box to play a certain frequency and hit ridiculous large SPL at that one frequency, but how about building a box to keep the level of the subs output high at all frequencies that it plays.

If car audio competitions are set on SPL based on a single frequency like 58Hz then I have no respect for them, and nor would I want a system in my house or car that played like that. Nor do I care what any one setup will do at quantized frequencies. What will it do in 1/3 1/12 1/24 octaves or what is the output accross all frequencies now that is a real box design. And unless you are comparing this sort of output between subs the comparison is all subjective and pretty worthless.

Said like someone who has never competed on a national level... So easy? Go to MECA/Drag/USACI/SLAP world finals and win. Try to get a 156 out of 2 10's @ drag... lmao...
