TC 5200 Recone options

LOL. Yeah, throw a 5000W 50hz sine wave into one and let me know how long before the coil melts down. My money is on under 2 minutes. They may claim that but you will not find anybody to back up a claim like that with a warranty. Any company that is claiming that is either very shady or counting on a very uninformed customer who only cares how big of a number they can have on the package.

A couple guys on this forum have some OEM TC parts. I've also got some hard to find TC parts from Robot Underground in the past. I don't know who you think can magically make a coil hold more heat and you're doing something very wrong if you're bottoming out an 18" woofer on only 3500W.
 hating on tantric I see?

Im sure some companies use better materials than others, im not claiming their 5krms is real.. I just took it literally and figured I wouldn't be able to push it.

As far as spider spacing.. for a 15" is it better to have a .25" or .625" spacer?
There is no better. I've been over this until I'm blue in the face and your still not getting it. What box are you going to put this thing in? You can't fit passive radiators and you can't fit ported. I already explained that in the last thread, which you stopped replying to when you realized 2 ports less than 1inch wide wasn't going to cut it for a 15 on 2kw.

If your going sealed with it, leave it alone because it's very well built for that already. You could get better performance from a single 12 ported if you wanted to go that way and there are plenty off the shelf options to choose from. You looking at spending how much on this speaker? I bet you the recone for this thing to make it useable will cost you a few hundred on top of it, especially by the time you get a hold of a 12inch basket you probably in the $300+range, dont' quote me but that's my guess.. Even an off the shelf recone is $100 by the time you ship it both ways. Your going to need to get a basket which cost a bit and then all custom soft parts. I assume your paying 500 minimum for your 5200, so your looking at a 700+ dollar speaker when it's all said and done and no it will still not be the 'best" use of your 700 by a longshot.

Your still trying to build you supercar with the fastest 0-60 you can get, when it looks like your terrain may be curvy or even offroad. Stop trying to build a speaker and build a system. It's a combo of the box car and speaker, right now your just mentally ************ and wasting money. Sorry if I'm coming off as rude but I know you want this thing to perform well and your really going about it the wrong way and are wasting a lot of time and money, which is frustrating to watch.

Haha thanks, the fact your getting worked up about another persons descisions shows that you care(good thing). xD

I just want to know my options. Im going to run the 5200 sealed for awhile, that's why i didn't keep replying to the last thread.

I am just looking at my options.. thinking about getting another basket and trying a few different setups.

Eventually i will end up with a custom 4hp in a large SUV, but for now i have to work with my Volvo.

..and if you recone a 5200 motor with PAP parts everyone will laugh at you.

Using American made coils is important. Also finding a company that magnetizes in-house will ensure you're getting whatever grade magnet you're supposed to get. Occasionally if you mass produce in China you'll get a great prototype, then when you get 5000 units they cheap out on the grade of magnets or pretty much everything they can to save a buck. All the subs I've seen that are reliable mechanically are build in-house in USA. IMO the best softparts are made in USA as well, but until you get pretty extreme you won't really notice the difference.

I have a low opinion of anyone who makes outrageous claims in this industry. I don't care who claims 5000W. I don't think there's a conventional woofer made that can deal with that much heat for very long.

Whats PAP? psycho acoustic ports?

I sense sarcasm.

Now your just murdering the poor thing. DD's recones would be the exact opposite of what you started with. Your going to go from a very soft quiet suspension to an overly tight noisy one. While something a bit stiffer than standard might be good, I don't really think that's optimal. Until you know what box size you need I wouldn't worry about reconing it and I'd probably let PSI handle it. He charges a bit more than some, but he can help guide you through getting what you actually want a bit better than just throwing another brand of parts in there, plus it will hold value slightly better than the rest of the recones, although any aftermarket recone is going to drop value. You may actually like the sound stock anyways given what you said you wanted out of the woofer. A stock 5200 will give you crazy low end in a small box, peaky down low might suite your tastes. Until you have the new vehicle and try it ported as a regular speaker, stop worrying about who can recone it. After you get it and try it ported and don't like it then worry about a recone, even then simply EQ'ing it to taste would probably be cheaper and a overall better option.

Good point, it is the exact opposite of what im looking for.. 5 spiders, no thanks lol.

The reason I was asking about recones is because I was thinking about buying another basket and having a SPL top to play with.. probably not going to do that though.

Im debating selling my mmats 3500.05 and getting a DDm3b, can you give me your opinion on that please?
