Pioneer AVIC 5200-NEX sound/volume issuee

Hey everyone, I have a Pioneer 5200NEX, and I've started having a couple of issues.

First, while driving, the sound will sometimes cut out and then come back within a couple seconds. The screen never shuts off, I just lose sound. Does not seem to matter whether the road is smooth or bumpy, as if it were a loose connection.

My other issue is that both of my volume buttons on the radio itself turn the volume up. I have steering wheel controls and those both work properly.

I tend to believe they may be related, as they started roughly around the same time. For both issues, a quick Google search suggests that there may be an internal failure, which honestly might be better for me. I can take stuff out and replace it or put it back in, but I've never been good at testing electrical stuff.

The offending head unit is installed in a 2004 Ford Expedition, if that matters, and was installed by the previous owner at some point. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

I understand your concerns with the audio issues. Let's dive into troubleshooting!

No volume control. Both button turn up the volume to the Pioneer radio. There is also loss of volume that is called clipping. Where the top and bottom portions of the radio frequency are chopped off. Cannot hear any thing. Not enough volts through the radio. Where can I start? The previous owner did this install for you. From the sounds of it, he connected or left it out and not connect the light green parking brake bypass wire. Does this radio have a DVD player to run DVD? It appears he added the old module to the new radio. He should have bought a new module, preferably one that does the job. Not sure if the kind they sell at Wal-mart does the job. So not just get any module. The owner connected your new radio to his old module. That's why the clipping. Get a new radio then, then buy the harness with the module already made by Ford or the manufacturers selling this wiring harness for that particular radio. Module should be connected. All of the wires should be connected and nicely made. Buy that one. Though more expensive, it is easier. But get a new radio. Sorry. Volume control or potentiometer is broke.

One more note on last night's post. The radio has carPlay and do all kinds of neat operations to the radio. So these radios will take up electrical power away from the car. I see no problem to this and will not affect the car operation. Just be sure the wirings are connected properly so that the radio will work. There will be no more clipping because all car radios run on basically 12 volts to 14.2 volts power supply lines. The battery. Continuously charged. So should be no problem this time if you've bought the correct wiring harness for that radio.

Titus1234: Thanks again for the good problem. I had a car issue like this too but with static. Afterward there was static. But if you'll notice, location matters. Buildings, trees, mountains, get in the way of broadcast stations. This would be a reason for static. Not to worry then, it will come back great again. This kind of broadcast radio reception is called radio signals in electrostatic fields. Buildings getting in the way of a good reception.
