system wattage?

i read about the first three comments on this thread....
i think im considered, "retarded" now............

add HU+amp=total.....hahaha..WTF!?

well, maybe you should've kept reading.........he wants to know the TRUE power output of his system......not rated power......there's a little more to it than just adding system components power ratings:rolleyes:

True RMS power? That's a simple process as well!

First get an amp meter, and clamp it around the wire from the battery to... everything.

Then making sure your amps are set right (no clipping), turn the key on (Engine off) and crank the system for all it's worth playing pink noise.

Measure the amps being pulled by the whole car. Multiply the amps by 12.6 (Fully charged battery) to get the number of watts pulled by your system during the test.

This is the wattage used by the stereo + HU internals + interior lights and is as close to an accurate rating as you'd need to get.

Do you really need that accurate of a reading? Seriously if somebody asks me approximately how much power do I have in my system, I say about 1500W since my sub amp is 1000W @ 2Ohm and my 4-channel is like 680Wx4, I just subtract a little to make it a nice round number.

How many people would answer that question with a number like 862.9W

All that work to measure everything just to find out whether or not you have 10kW, only so you can use that as a reason to gripe about not being able to do the hair trick
