Add up the wattages of all your equipment? If your head unit puts out 50Wx4, then that's 200W, and if your sub amp is feeding 1000W to your sub, then add 1000W to it... it's not hard.

YEA, BUT I THINK HE MEANS THE TRUE OUTPUT OF A SYSTEM......NOT JUST RATED BY THE MANUFACTURER.......FOR INSTANCE..........10 HIFINICS 2000W AMPS WOULD BE RATED @ 20,000 WATTS.....RIGHT??? BUT HOW MANY TRUE WATTS WOULD THERE BE????? 16,000 TOPS???

I'M SURE THERE IS AN INSTUMENT TO TEST AM AMP WHILE ITS PUSHING A SUB, FOR EXAMPLE, BUT DONT KNOW WHERE OR WHAT.

Yes, if you want to know exactly what your amp is doing in your setup, you need an AC clamp meter capable of reading true RMS values. Then you'd have a voltmeter at the amp to get a voltage reading, and the clamp meter around the power wire to read peak current drawn. I don't know if you can get them at Advance...but I know Lowe's/Home Depot sells them.

Sears had a really good price going on an Extech model not too long ago...$30 or something like that. Usually they're in the $50-60 range.

A multimeter will tell you the voltage drop you're getting (and you need one to test the amp anyway), but no multimeter out there is going to have the current measuring ability. Most only go up to 15A or so, 20 if you're lucky.
