System sounds like *** on music

And it's 4.5 net? That's 18 per and explains your bandwidth issue IF your LPF is right.. Around 80hz
yes my lpf is around 80hz. But I don't understand port area, I thought 32hz was 32hz.. so different subs like different port area even if the tuning is the same??

it has an impact on your transition from one note to another. Too much port area can lead to a sub loosing control as if it was free aired. Too little will cause port noise. generally aim for 12-16 port per cube for slots and 9-13 for flared aeros

Two boxes can be tuned to the same frequency, and still have different port area, port length, and internal volume

Tuning has to do with how all those factors come together. It gets even more complicated too

So 81 sq in of port area is way too much for me then and a new box will solve my issue? Or is this common with z series like the other guy said?

To much like I figure you have will make it very strong around tuning which explains why you like the low end and not the high. For music boxes I tend to stick with 14 per. That gives you more flat bandwidth without giving up to much out put. If you told him you want really strong lows thats what he gave you

Has anyone who posted so far bothered to even model zv3 12's in OP's box specifications? The bandwidth he describes is pretty consistent with what is predicted by modeling software here.
So getting a similiar box with low 30's tuning but less port area and I'm good?

Like I said it murders my truck on decaf tracks around 28-32 hz but then songs my sa12 use to pound on the zv3's literally sound like a faint tap where it should drop.

I can't speak for the Z but it's similur to my old 95s. 4.5 net tuned at 33hz with 14 per played flat from 27-50hz. It would dig to 25 and 60 with slight roll off but not bad at all. Every car will be different though

I'm saying port area has nothing to do with it. Your woofer is performing exactly as it's specifications predict it will in an enclosure tuned that low.

I'd guess if it's playing 28hz it may well even be tuned lower than you think which would make the response even less linear.

Get bassbox pro WinISD or other graphing software and see the predicted frequency response for yourself. If you want to tune zV3 12" in the low 30's you will get a peak around tuning and then a drop off in the frequencies where actual musical instruments happen. Personally I'd tune them around 38-40hz and stick to actual normal speed music. In 4.5 to 5 cube that models much better IMO.

You will need new woofers if you wish to play whale songs and actual music if you want things to sound even remotely balanced.

14-15 port area per cubic feet in a 4 cubic feet enclosure tuned to 34-38hz will give you a better response on music while retaining lows. This sub does not need to be tuned low to dig into the lows. Everyone on this site is just soo focused on lows, they dont even talk about higher frequency response when recommending tuning.

This^^^^ i never knew this... But i agree on here EVERY recomendation is based on the lows not higher range of bass. My box for my hds312 has 17.48 per cube...i think its 2.23 net with 39 inches of port at 30hz. How would this play out? I noticed listening to radio i have no bass but playing my phone the sub comes alive! But thats bumping decaf songs. Sorry for threadjack op

The only thing I don't get it why my sa played everything well, and that box was 34hz. So either 32hz is really THAT different, or sa's are better than z's in that area somehow.
