System on a budget, what are your thoughts?

Thanks for the help.
The only "big" system I ever had was a RF punch 75 and 2 Kicker comp 12"s, it was loud, vibrating but not that tight for rock music.

So if I want to spend under $150 for 1 subs and can get 2 P1 10 0r 12's for $120, I probably should get them. A buddy at work said the P1's are just like the Kicker comps from the olden days.
it all depends on what u want. if u want bass and are fine with giving up SQ/tight bass then go with the RF subs.

if u can afford it, or if ur brother can get it for u, 1 polk audio mm1540 would be great. the SQ will be great and it will keep up with all the tight bass. plus being a 15" it will get pretty solidly loud. only needs 425watts rms. it costs $175

I just talked to my brother and he did this install Friday and said it sounded amazing for what it is.

1 - Polk Audio AA3125-A MM1240 DVC

1 - Punch 400 mono amp

So if I got a Polk mm 12" and used it with a punch 300, how might that be for rock, etc?

My brother can get a Polk Audio AA3125-A MM1240 DVC for me at around $140 and he said 1 would be plenty because I am putting the box in the trunk of a 97 accord, and he said every time he installs 2 or more subs in a Honda trunk, the rattling is horrendous, and that 1 always gives better SQ and an overall better sound.

Sound Deadening Materials for Noise Reduction from Second Skin You might want to do this too then.

Yeh, I will do that for sure.

So far, here is what I am thinking, do you think this amp will power the sub well enough?

RF Punch 300.1

1 12" Alpine Type R SWR

I could go with the Alpine MRP-M500 but it is $35.00 more than the RF amp.

I could also go with a RF R500, but I have not read much about these.

Joegeek, read my post and reconsider. The vast majority of members on this forum can vouch for that system being a nice starter. Those RSD subs are one the best bang for buck subs out there, and the MB Quart Onyx amps, if they are like their predecessor (Discus), are very solid amps that are underrated and have good sound quality.

I would take a look at those MB Quart amps that Bobb suggested they are supposed to be great amps... And if the Phoenix Gold Rsd Subs are anything like they Rsd component sets then you will not be disapointed at all

Like i said i have the polk mm1040 and they are GREAT SQ subs. i have 2 of them in a crew cab and they hit solid for metal and rock. for rap u would probably want 12s.

that alpine type R i have never heard but i would say if u ran it, it would get louder than the polk but less SQ.

the phionex gold will probably be better than the type R for loudness and i would go with it over the type R. it probably has better SQ than the type R but not as good as the polk.

I agree with that the Polk will have better SQ but tht Type R will be louder, but I think the phoenix Gold is more SQ oriented like the Polks are, so my guess would be if you want loud get an R if you want SQ Polk or PG is a toss up

OK, if my heart is set on 1 12" Alpine Type R, what are you thoughts of running a RF Power T600 at it.

I just read that some were getting close to 800 W mono out of it. Would this damage the Type R or slam it?

I can get a new one for $210.00 that is why I am asking.

Polk audio mm1540 15" only needs 425watts rms and i bet it gets louder than that type R

even if it gets the same loudness i bet it has better SQ and u could save money and get a smaller amp.

the mm1540 is only $180
