System on a budget, what are your thoughts?

I used to be "in the know" with amps, subs, crossovers, etc...about 10 years ago but got out of it once the kid came along.

Well, I have a 97 accord and want to add some decent sound, not big, huge, amazing, just decent for a low price.

Right now I have 2 Alpine 6x9 in the rear, and 2 Alpine 5 1/4 in the front with an Alpine head unit. It sound decent but you can tell it needs amplified, plus the speakers are rated at 150 each.

I also would like 1 sub in a box to put in the trunk so I was thinking 10 or 12 from Rockford or Kicker, since those are the 2 I had the best luck with back in the day.

Here is the deal I can get, what are you thoughts on the products, for the price.

Rockford Fosgate Punch P1 P1S412 12-Inch 150-Watt Subwoofer - 4 Ohm - $61.50 NEW

Rockford Fosgate Prime R150-2 car amplifier - $60.00 NEW

I could also step up to the 250 W 2 Ohm Punch 12" for $91.00 NEW

I think it is cheap myself for these. Should I get 2 of those amps, and run 1 mono to the sub and 1 to the 4 inside speakers, or will 1 push everything.

Now this, my budget is $200, and that is not a lot at all but with the deals I am finding, I might be able to pull it off.

look in the classifieds here. You might find a sub amp combo with a custom built box. Just post in the WTB section and put in the heading... WTB $200 sub, amp, box for 97 accord. then restate in the main passage.

Thanks

I really want to buy new, that is just the way I am.

I can get the following amp for around $100 new, and I think it is a great deal, has anyone every heard/seen one.

Rockford Fosgate Prime R300-4 300 Watt Multi Channel Amplifier $102.509 NEW

Will this power 1 12" sub and 4 components or is my best route 2 amps?

Can the Rockford Fosgate Prime R300 power my 6x9's, use the head unit to power the 5 1/4's, then bridge channel's 3-4 to run a sub?

If so, how would it sound?

I called my brother and he can get me the following, are they a good match.

RF Punch 300 mono amp $119.99

(1) RFPunch P2 P2D210 $89.99

Prime R150 amp $62.00

I can use the Prime for the components and the mono to the sub.

Is the Punch 300 to much power for a P2 10"?

Also, I have never ran just one sub in my life, can only 1 10" sound as good as my brother says it can?

the mono amp pushing 300 watts to the punch 10 will be a great match.

1 10 can sound good but im not sure what good is to you. i had 2 of the punch p2 12s and i loved the output from them.

do u want more Sound quality or do u like it just to be loud?

do u want to feel the bass? like when i had the 2 punch p2 12s in a camaro, i could literally feel air pushing my hair and shirt.

or do u just want to here some decent bass but dont really want to be super loud on ur ears

How the hell do we know how good your brother says it will sound? What a dumb question.

Yes, 1 10" sub can sound fantastic in the right enclosure.

Why are you so set on rockford? Your in the wrong place to be asking about rockford. Your a troll aren't you? I've been had!

Well, my brother works at a shop and can get 50% off through today.

I listen to 95% rock, metal and classic rock, 5% hip hop.

I love to feel the air move, and shaking but I love a good hard Metallica kick drum a lot better than moving air.

I have 2 Polk mm1040 10" subs

i also have 2 Rockford Fosgate punch p2 12" subs

the polks have great SQ.

the RF do not, however they get nice and loud.

i listen to metal and i will never buy RF again.

I recommend going for a Polk mm series sub. either the mm1040 (10") or mm1240 (12")

the 10 is 350 rms though on 300watts will be good enough just wont get too loud.

the 12 is 425rms.

I also recommend any Image Dynamics sub in ur price range, any size, it will sound great.

Im going with either the Polk mm1240 or the Image Dynamics IDQv2 12" sub to maintain great SQ but get more output.

So if you had to choose a RF, and listened to metal, rock most of the time, 10's are an easy choice over 12's?

Sorry for all the questions but I have to let me brother know what I want in the morning, also, for $120 total for 2 10" P1's I might have to go ahead and get those.

I tried reader about "louder" as opposed to sounding better but I am getting tired and frustrated.

have u ever had a system before? if not RF will do u fine, if u find a good deal.

RF was my first system and for alternative music it was fine. But now i listen to metal/rock and i heard a SQ subwoofer and ill never go back.

also 10s vs 12s generally wont have a difference on SQ or the type of music u listen to. Especially when comparing the same brand and same product line (like rockford fosgate punch series).

Thanks for the help.

The only "big" system I ever had was a RF punch 75 and 2 Kicker comp 12"s, it was loud, vibrating but not that tight for rock music.

So if I want to spend under $150 for 1 subs and can get 2 P1 10 0r 12's for $120, I probably should get them. A buddy at work said the P1's are just like the Kicker comps from the olden days.
