Woofersetc.com has good deals on old ppi pc series amps. Those would be the amps I strongly recomend. Most company's don't make amps like these anymore and if they even come close they charge a arm and a leg for em. Don't let the low watt rms scare you away from them, they're are hella underrated and are just outstanding sounding amps.
As far as component speaks, get the best cdt audio's you can afford.(hopefully the hd's) I think woofersetc is having a sale on them too and they sound extremely good with rock.
For a sub, jl audio makes good subs for rock. Also image dynamics, whatever sub you get though, id put the most amount of power that it says the sub can take. With rock it helps to have the headroom and you don't have to worry as much about blowing it.
For a head unit, there's a lot out there. Pioneers are nice, so are alpines. If your gonna be using your ipod with it you should look into how they work together. Some decks control the ipod better than others. Just make sure if it has a cd player that it has a 24 bit digital to analog converter.
There's a lot more involved with the install then the equiptment when it comes to making a system sound good for rock.( a lot easier with rap) When it comes time to install it, take your time and don't cut corners. Make sure to use the correct size wire for both power, ground, and speaker wire.( use at least 14 gauge for speaker wire and preferably 12) don't use cheap rca's. Makes a big difference. Run your rca's and your power wires on opposite sides of the car. One of the biggest things you could do to make it sound good is use dynamat on the doors to really seal them up and dampen them.( also makes a big difference) hope this helps...
