Maxi Link. How does it work?

I was thinking of getting one of these but I'm not sure EXACTLY how it works. Will my amps run at 1ohm and then the one signal coming out be a 1ohm load still, or would it become a 2 or 4ohm load? I'm sure it has to be matching amps, but what load would they have to do power in for me to get power at a 1ohm load? What are the drawbacks of these?

Load stays the same, lol and yes you will have to gain match the amps but once you do you have a gain knob that will control all the amps, its a nifty tool when you have shit loads of amps. No draw backs, also has a built in line driver. Good piece of equipment

from what i read in the instruction manual it isnt like strapping 2 amps, ie strap 2 1ohm stable amps and you run them at 2 ohms, you use a maxlink and you still run them both at 1ohm

Are you sure they give power at the same load, or do they act like like a regular strapped amp? I read the link, but it seems like they still just mimic strapped amps

Basically it allows you to strap amps that otherwise couldn't be strapped (kicker amps for example).

So yes, if you do use it as a strapping tool, then the amps will see half the load, the same as strapping a pair of amps with onboard strapping capabilities (1 ohm strapped=.5 ohm per amp).

It also works well as a line driver/crossover for multiple amps even if you don't plan on strapping them.
